🔥 July 2 is National Wildland Firefighter Day 🔥
Today, we honor the brave men and women who battle wildfires across the country—often in extreme conditions, far from home, and for weeks at a time. From all of us at the Skagit County First Responders Foundation, we salute their courage, grit, and sacrifice.
👩🚒 What does a typical day look like for a wildland firefighter?
It’s not your average 9-to-5.
🌄 5:30 a.m. – Wake-up at fire camp, quick breakfast, gear check
🚒 7:00 a.m. – Briefing: weather, fire behavior, safety updates
🪓 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. – On the line: digging fire breaks, clearing brush, setting backfires, or monitoring hot spots
🌙 9:00 p.m. – Decontaminate gear, eat, rest, repeat
They carry 45+ lbs of gear, hike rugged terrain, and work 16-hour shifts for up to 14 days straight. And they do it to protect our homes, forests, and lives.

📅 July 2 also falls during the Wildland Firefighter Week of Remembrance (June 30–July 6)—a time to reflect on those who gave their lives in the line of duty.
