Try these SIMPLE yet POWERFUL 💪 oxytocin-boosting activities to increase feelings of well-being 🌱 and navigate away from toxic stress 💥 ⬇️

✅Connect with a friend. Keep it to just a few minutes and still reap the benefits of connection without putting further strain on your busy schedule! Better yet, skip a sesh of social media scrolling and you’ll have time to call several friends.

✅Take a warm bath, drink a warm drink, or snuggle up in a warm blanket. Warmth is associated with comfort and safety. The sensation triggers oxytocin release!

✅Get or give a massage. The sensation of human touch stimulates nerve endings in the skin, which then send signals to the brain to release oxytocin. Plus! The relaxation induced by massage further enhances oxytocin production.

✅Do something creative. In the act of creativity individuals often become fully immersed in the present moment, losing track of time becoming a mindfulness practice. Moreover, creative expression often involves self-expression and the communication of emotions, which can foster connections with others and release of oxytocin.

✅Laugh. When we laugh, our brains release endorphins, which are neurotransmitters associated with feelings of pleasure and happiness. Endorphins interact with oxytocin-producing cells in the brain, stimulating the release of oxytocin. Further, laughter often occurs in social settings, and it strengthens social bonds and connections. Shared laughter among friends or loved ones enhances feelings of trust, empathy, and camaraderie, which are all associated with oxytocin release.

Ladies! Summer is here!! ☀️ ….which means we’re entering sugar central! Soda, ice cream, shakes, popsicles, shaved ice, potlucks with 20 different kinds of dessert! 🍦🍩🧁 We all know the health consequences of high sugar/glucose consumption! 🥺

PLUS! A glucose spike inevitably leads to a blood glucose crash. Low blood glucose levels leave you feeling anxious, fatigued, and….

CRAVING MORE SUGAR!! 🧁

Low blood glucose is a stress on the body and causes cortisol to be released, and yep, cortisol causes sugar cravings in an attempt to raise a blood glucose level quickly.

Your blood glucose levels can literally be on a rollercoaster ride all day long, with each dip causing a new craving!

Trying to just “muscle through” the cravings is nearly impossible! ❌💪

Here are 4 tips to AVOID the cravings!

1️⃣ Eat a glucose-balanced diet

A diet with plenty of fiber, protein, and healthy fats can help reduce sugar cravings. These foods, when paired with carbohydrates (sugars and starches) can help minimize blood glucose spikes and dips, reducing fluctuations that may trigger cravings.

2️⃣ Stay hydrated

Dehydration commonly can cause sugar cravings. Drinking enough water can help you stay hydrated and reduce cravings.

3️⃣ Get enough sleep

Lack of sleep can trigger the release the stress hormone cortisol. This hormone can increase sugar cravings. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night and keep a regular sleep schedule to reduce cravings.

4️⃣ Manage stress

Stress can also trigger sugar cravings through cortisol release. Practice stress-reducing techniques like meditation, breathwork, or yoga to help manage stress and reduce cravings.
