The beloved Bubble. They are by FAR my favorite outfits…. I get so sad when I know one of my babies is over this cute phase. Honestly, I’d keep her in them a few more years if I could!

Soooo moms…. At what age did you retire the Bubble outfits?!

Most babies and moms have to take a little time to establish a perfected breastfeeding routine. (And that’s ok, AND normal)

But Sara, I thought you said breastfeeding is the best thing for baby and totally natural?!You are right, I did!

Just like your baby will learn to walk, talk, run, eat solids, sleep through the night, etc. your baby and you will get in that perfect groove of breastfeeding.

Do all these “natural” things babies do take time? Yes.

Do all babies do these things on the exact same day? Nope

Do some babies just naturally pick up breastfeeding and mom and baby never struggle? Absolutely!

But it doesn’t mean you are not enough for your baby if breastfeeding takes a little time. You may have to trail and error some new positions. You may need to see a lactation consultant (call me 🤚🏼)! But none of these things mean you are failing.

I tell moms, just like your baby will walk one day…you don’t know when, you don’t know how many tries it will take, you don’t know if they will be scared to fall, or maybe they will just stand up and start running. But no matter how your baby starts walking, there isn’t a wrong way.

Never heard of something like this before? That’s reasonable since there isn’t much out there like it. I love the concept of birth doulas, midwives, and even home birth (qualified of course 😘) midwives. I love them because I see the genuine care and compassion they give to their patients. They truly want what’s best for them, and they aren’t a number in a healthcare system, they are a name and an individual person with specific needs.

What happens though when our plans take a different turn, and we end up somewhere we hadn’t even thought about with our new baby….the Neonatal Intensive Care. I have worked as an RN in the NICU for over a decade, and there is never a reason for being in a NICU that doesn’t completely overwhelm parents. One day stay, or a year, it’s overwhelming, sometimes draining, and completely not how anyone wanted things to go.

You needed support during your pregnancy, you need support during labor, you need support postpartum, so why wouldn’t you need support in the NICU?

This is not a medical service* but what Bump to Bundles does is meet you where you are in your NICU Journey.
Here is what we offer:
-Parent, Family, and Infant Bonding Support
-Education for Families (even baby’s siblings want to know what’s happening)
-Parental Support
-Feeding Support

A more detailed list is on the posted pictures.

When to call or reach out to me? Anytime. A home birth that baby has to be transferred to NICU, a C-section with a NICU transfer, if you anticipate a NICU stay, or any other concern.

Happy Mother’s Day from my crew to YOU ❤️

I am constantly amazed, encouraged, and inspired by each of your stories of becoming or waiting to become a mother.

I was thinking this week as I held my babies, I never dreamed of being a Doctor, princess, or President. I didn’t ever want fame. All I ever wanted was to be a mom. They are each more than I could have imagined. I’m always so thankful.

Wherever you are in your motherhood journey….HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!

***I will be back to regular posting and reeling soon! The month of May has been BUSY! 2 more weeks of curriculum 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸

Nursing Bras are so expensive, and I ALWAYS seem to forget I need one before baby arrives!

So here are some reminders:

-Nursing Bras are also GREAT items to put on your baby registry (go up 1 size)

-Nursing Bras CAN be pumping bras! No need to buy a separate pumping bra (unless you want to, then go for it girly!)

-My theory in trying to save money is buy cheaper things that we know: I’m not going to need this forever AND it’s going to get pretty worn and stained at times

SO stop what you are doing, and go add one to your registry ❤️

Cluster feeding is when you feel like baby is done eating, lay them down and they want right back on the breast. This can go off and on for hours in those first days and weeks.

BUT DONT PANIC! Cluster feeding (while exhausting at times) is normal, AND has a purpose! Cluster feeding is also another reason the “feed baby every 3 hours mentality” just sometimes isn’t realistic (turns out you are feeding baby a lot more)!

So why does your newborn do this?
-Remember, latching baby=hormone signals to your body to make more milk!
-Your baby’s stomach is growing a lot in those first few days and weeks, and to signal to your body they need more milk, cluster feeding is a great way!
-Comfort. You are all your baby has known since….forever. Baby knows your smell, your voice, your heartbeat, etc. So of course they want to be close
-Cluster feeding also helps regulate your milk supply!

More to come on what Cluster Feeding DOESN’T mean! In the meantime, find a binge worthy show, get comfortable on the couch, and let baby eat away! I also know this is exhausting….so please take a break, ask for help, or walk away for a bit.

Postpartum. If you’ve been there you know the emotions. The absolute joy, happiness, amazement, tiredness, depleted feeling, and sometimes loneliness. I know God places desires in our heart, and it is no secret that serving new moms and babies is mine. Being a mom myself, and working with these moms it’s no surprise to anyone postpartum can feel defeating and lonely. In a culture that has lost so much of their willingness and ability to form community, we sometimes forgot how life changing the smallest ways of serving new moms can change their life.

When I was 30 weeks pregnant, my husband and I loaded our belongings and moved from Arkansas to Pennsylvania. I cried and cried as we drove past the state sign that said, “Welcome to Pennsylvania”. My family, my friends, our church, and the job I loved were hundreds of miles away. We moved into a little townhouse, and visited a few churches in the weeks before Mally joined us. We walked into a sweet Baptist church (hey High Point), that immediately welcomed us like we had been there for years. Do you know what they did for us just a few weeks after meeting us? They brought us meals (like for 2 or 3 weeks) once Mally was born. I know bringing a new mom a meal can be normal, but these people didn’t know us well, they just knew how to love people well. They showed us Jesus in so many ways. In a time that felt so lonely, their meals made us feel so loved. And years later, I never forget how those “simple” meals changed so much about having a new baby.

So why do you all need to know that? Well, there is an organization called Moms Loving Moms. They deliver postpartum kits (individually packaged) to new moms in our area. Obviously, there are wonderful products in these kits that help moms heal after birth…but more than that they are a way to show Jesus and love on these new moms.

Of course, making these kits isn’t free. On April 28th Fellowship Bible Church is focusing on serving our community and one way we are serving is packing kits for Moms Loving Moms.

What we need:
-Supplies (I will post the Amazon Wish List)

Thought a little glimpse into who I am and why I do what I do would be nice.

Lactation help to new moms, or moms to be is so crucial in helping build confidence for parents. I truly enjoy every meeting and class I do! I hope it helps parents build a foundation for feeding my their baby! #

NICU Support is a newer service of mine. I see Doulas make tremendous impacts on the labor and postpartum journeys of new moms all the time. I thought to myself, “why can’t I do this for NICU families too?”. No matter the reason your baby is in the NICU, it is extremely overwhelming. I pray I can help support families during this time by offering a variety of services. More to come on this soon!

I love a good fun fact about breastfeeding any day ❤️

How do I know I am making enough for my baby? We may want someone to give us an exact amount of time to breastfeed, volume to pump, or specific way of knowing of much we make…..but want to know the truth? It is a little different for every baby. Just like adults how much we eat per meal will always vary between us….but as long as we are healthy and feeling good we’ve succeeded! Same with your baby!

Baby is gaining weight after 2 weeks? Yay!!
Baby is peeing around 6-8 times a day?
Baby is alert and meeting milestones?
Then most likely you are producing that perfect amount for your baby!!!

Ways NOT to measure how much milk you make:
-PUMPING! Some people are super pumpers (woo hoo), and some just aren’t (hi, it’s me 🤚🏼) , a pump is different from a latching baby and most people respond better to their baby!
-If your breast feel empty! Eventually, your milk will regulate and you won’t feel “full” like you do when you have a newborn
-Baby will take a bottle after breastfeeding, lots of babies use sucking as their self soothing mechanism. So, when we stick a bottle in their mouth most likely they are going to suck.

If you are ever worried or stressed always reach out to me or your pediatrician. There is no worry to small, all are important!

When your baby goes to the NICU after birth a lot of things you had planned for your baby have to be changed, so your baby can heal. Maybe one of hardest one’s is…putting your baby to breast.

Why your baby is in the NICU can be a major deciding factor. Did baby just have trouble learning to breathe after birth? Was baby having blood sugar issues, or trouble holding their body temperature up? Maybe baby came just a few weeks early, or maybe baby came months too early.

Few tips to remember:
- Heart and lungs working properly in anyone (and especially our tiny friends) is priority. If they are struggling in either of these areas, let the focus be on healing those 2 things.
- We have plenty of stores in our adult bodies to shop from when we are sick and don’t eat, but our small babies don’t. Pushing them to eat when they aren’t ready can pull from the very minimal stores of nutrients they do have. So, let your baby tell you how long and when they are ready to breastfeed 🤱🏽 (and pumped milk can almost always be given in times where baby needs a little more than they are able to take in)
What this doesn’t mean…..
-you can’t hold your baby, care for your baby, and touch your baby (skin to skin in the NICU, I’m convinced, is so therapeutic)
-your baby will never latch….lots of babies will latch, but it may come with a few more weight check ups, or maybe the use of a ni**le shield.
-you failed your baby. When NICU moms feel defeated it breaks my heart. You want so badly to be all your baby needs, but this is where I remind moms that I’m so thankful that we have places like NICUs where (with the help of family and medical staff) we can heal these babies!!!

*Finding a good lactation consultant before you go home can be key. Even for the simple encouragement, and weight checks. I have seen it lift so much worry off of parents with new NICU babies at home* 🏠
