Please join us in wishing Dr. Hartshorn a happy 2 years with us!

We love having you on our team Dr. H and we know our patients do too!

This is great information! Many of us get too caught up on a diagnosis after receiving an x-ray or MRI. Don’t forget how resilient our bodies are to heal! I got into this field because I’m one of these individuals that recovered from severe back pain and disc herniation. Sometimes all we need is conservative treatment or the proper guidance with self-care!

So how do you feel about needles?
looks just like some of YOU when you come in: face down, needled up!
•The Rock gets it.
•Be like The Rock.
(As much as we wish he was our patient, we did not take this picture.) 😆

Even though I look like a wounded, passed out drunk buffalo 🦬 laying face down in prairies - can’t tell ya how grateful I am for these quiet healing/recovery moments.

After the fun pain of/

4 knee surgeries
Torn quadricep off my pelvis
Torn adductor off my pelvis
Triple hernia surgery
Ruptured Achilles’ tendon
Completely shoulder reconstruction
3 low back disc herniations
2 low back disc ruptures

It’s the daily reminder that we only have one body and we gotta take care of it...

Interesting health theory for those chronic chocolate cravings, some studies show that it may be due a lack of magnesium in your diet. Low magnesium levels give cause a variety of musculoskeletal and cardiovascular related health problems! Besides dark chocolate, magnesium is in healthy foods such as beans, nuts, seeds, fish, avocados, and dark leafy greens. As we age, it’s gets more and more crucial to see health professionals for guidance. Especially if it’s an easy diet change and/or supplement fix!

Cupping can leave some red marks that may appear as bruising but is actually petechia, which essentially is the red blood cells getting pulled to the surface. Increasing the blood flow really helps speed up the muscle recovery process!

We love when y'all share your pics with us!!!

From our family to yours, we wish you true peace and joy this holiday season.
We will be closed starting Wednesday 12/23 and returning Monday 12/28.
⭐ Merry Christmas! ⭐

⚠️ Educational post alert! ⚠️

Since we work with all of these soft tissues, and we love every one of them, here's a little quiz for you!

How many of you know ALL of these facts?
Bravo if so! 🎉🎉

Thanks for the great info 😀 @ Advanced Chirosport

Why R.I.C.E When You Can M.O.V.E Instead?

I can’t agree with this more!

Did you know the originator of the R.I.C.E (rest, ice, compression, elevation) protocol has since redacted his stance on such for recovery of tissue/s? This was created in 1971, by Dr. Mirkin, as a standard for addressing acute injuries and has since

You can still get some glute exercises in while being stuck at home without any gym equipment! We’ve included 3 progressions based off your experience, as well as some added incline for increased difficulty (5 sec holds)!

You might notice a familiar face in this fine film!!! 😆

Since we know most of our patients have foam rollers and/or bands, we’re going to post some fun at home exercise videos. 🙃🙃
In addition to your individual workouts given by the docs and Liz, you can add some of these in! If your gyms are closed an at home workout can be just as effective! 🎉🎉

This works your ENTIRE core: firmly press your elbows into the foam roller while extending one leg at a time. The goal is to keep the foam roller straight (forcing either side of your core to engage) while extending your legs. 20 reps is all you need! It’s a 💪🏼

Dr. Findura and Dr. Hartshorn spent the weekend brushing up on FDM or the Fascial Distortion Model.

This works with, you guessed it, the fascia!

Fascia if you don't know is Latin for "band" and is a band/ sheet of connective tissue beneath your skin that attaches, stabilizes, encloses, and separates muscles and organs. 🤯

The treatments can be painful but EFFECTIVE.

Improve Performance, Lessen Injuries.
Kansas City even ranked as one of the top cities in the United States for sports lovers in 2019 by WalletHub.com. But we don’t want to just watch sports, we also want to play! This is why businesses like Kansas City Strength & Conditioning (KCSC) have become important to the Kansas City culture. KCSC helps improve athletic skills while reducing your likelihood of injury. We talk to co-owners Matt Hinkley and John Renzi about their shared goal of helping area athletes stay healthy.

ICT Muscle & Joint Clinic

Couldn’t agree more! Extremely similar to our office Advanced Chirosport in the Dallas area (Murphy, TX)!

“𝘈𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘨𝘶𝘺𝘴 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴? 𝘖𝘳 𝘥𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘨𝘶𝘺𝘴 𝘥𝘰 𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘺?”⁣

We will have patients go through their whole treatment plans and before being released from care ask that exact question or something similar!⁣

But truth be told, we don’t like go pigeon hole ourselves or get worked up on titles.⁣

What we know is the human body is incredible and incredibly adaptable. We also know everyone is unique in their type of pain, but also their personal goals; what they want out of treatment, but also their life.⁣

That means one cookie-cutter treatment style would assuredly leave some demographics and people out to dry. ⁣

So we try to encompass varying styles of modalities, techniques, coaching, and even personalities to match our unique patients! ⁣

Whether it’s having TRX Training straps to use at our clinic or something else, we want to be a different clinic. ⁣

Make rehab fun again. ⁣

Happy Birthday Dr. Davis!!

The Evidence Based Chiropractor

Below is an MRI of a patient with a disc herniation at L4-L5.

Does the patient need surgery, injections, or chiropractic?

Even with a large disc herniation- patient's should begin conservative care such as chiropractic or therapy before considering surgery or more advanced interventions.

It's been estimated that over 50% of the population walks around each day with disc issues...and thankfully very few require surgery!

The size of the herniation DOESN'T matter. Always examine the patient, not the picture!

ESU Health & Human Performance Program

Dr. Reed Hartshorn, DC is a graduate of our program and currently treats patients in the North Dallas area as a sports rehab doctor at Advanced Chirosport. As a full time student athlete on the ESU football team, he was also involved in leadership roles within the National Honors Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and mentoring elementary school students. “I always knew I wanted to be a doctor but wasn’t exactly sure on my path until I suffered a severe back injury on the football field. After exhausting all other options, I tried chiropractic treatment and responded immediately. I was already a pre-med student, so I took this as my sign to become a doctor of chiropractic.” He utilized his health and human performance background from ESU to pursue additional training and seminars during and after his Doctorate of Chiropractic to go further than the traditional chiropractor and become more sports and motion specific. His methods of care centralize around active screening/treatment techniques (including dry needling, cupping, & myofascial distortion) which focus on improving his patients’ functional movements, resulting in long term physical benefits. “I couldn’t be happier with where I am in my career. I credit ESU and the Health & Performance Program for guiding me in this path. It’s extremely rewarding to help athletes remain on the field and improve patients’ quality of life.” We congratulate Reed on seeing his dream through to fruition, and we wish him well as he continues to help athletes get back to competing. Thank you for sharing your story, Reed!

I couldn’t climb anything close to this before I started working out with my trainer The training paid off and I was able to complete the Bone Frog navy seal based obstacle course! Follow Neil Shortell to help you reach your fitness goals!

The Sports Physio

I see a lot of people with rotator cuff tendon tears and most are scared sh*tless and do not understand what this diagnosis means.

Many are lead to believe that a torn rotator cuff means a life of shoulder pain and disability, or that it will need surgery to fix it. This just isn’t true.

The first thing to consider is that rotator cuff tears are common the older you are. In fact, they are so common as we age they should be thought as a normal part of ageing, just like some wrinkles on the inside.

The other thing to consider is that not all tendons are the same and so not all tendon tears are the same.

Most tendons are like ropes, long and thin, but the rotator cuff tendon is broad and flat, more like a blanket.

Having a tear of a rope is very different than having a tear in a blanket.

This blanket arrangement is why a lot of rotator cuff tendon tears can be managed very well by utilising and improving the rest of the blanket around the hole the tear has created.

Of course this does depend on the size and location of the hole, but most tears of the rotator cuff occur in the supraspinatus tendon and in the crescent, and these are easily managed without surgery and does not mean a life of pain or disability.

I will be doing this ‘my doctor say I have...’ series over the next week or so, to give some more antidotes to common medical misunderstandings and misinformation.

Stay tuned for more!
