Unlocking the Power of the Solar Plexus:
Standing Up for Yourself as a Path to Healing
The solar plexus chakra, or Manipura, is our energetic center of personal power, confidence, and self-worth.
Located in the abdomen, it governs key organs like the stomach, liver, pancreas, and digestive system while influencing our ability to take action, set boundaries, and express who we truly are.
When this chakra is blocked, we may feel powerless, indecisive, or unable to advocate for ourselves. Healing it involves both inner and outer work—building the confidence to stand up for ourselves and releasing stuck energy through movement and energy work.
Last night, I had my own experience of confronting a solar plexus challenge. I was dining at a restaurant, and the server didn’t return my change. For a moment, I froze, battling with feelings of discomfort, fear, and the thought that "maybe it’s not worth saying anything." But deep down, I knew that letting this go wasn’t about the money—it was about standing up for myself and claiming what was rightfully mine.
With courage I didn’t think I had, I spoke up. My voice trembled, but I did it. The result? Not only did I get my change back, but I also felt a surge of empowerment that washed over me. That moment reminded me that advocating for ourselves—even in small ways—helps unlock stuck energy in the solar plexus. It’s these actions that build confidence and remind us of our worth.
If you’re feeling a solar plexus blockage, here are exercises and techniques you can try:
1. Breathwork for Confidence
Sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Place your hands over your stomach. Inhale deeply through your nose, feeling your abdomen expand, and exhale fully through your mouth. Visualize a glowing yellow light in your stomach area growing brighter with each breath. Do this for 5–10 minutes daily.
2. Movement to Release Energy
Somatic twisting exercises can be powerful for the solar plexus:
Sit or stand tall and twist your upper body to one side, letting your arms flow naturally.
Return to the center and twist to the opposite side.
Repeat for 1–2 minutes to release tension and allow the energy in your solar plexus to flow.
3. Affirmations to Build Inner Strength
"I am confident in my ability to stand up for myself."
"I trust my inner power and express my truth freely."
"I release any fear or hesitation that holds me back."
4. Journaling
Reflect on a time you hesitated to stand up for yourself and what you learned from the experience. What small step can you take today to reclaim your power?
