The violence has to stop. We MUST work together to put an end to what is happening with these school shootings. The Georgia high school shooting yesterday breaks our hearts wide open.
As a mama of a soon-to-be-teen, I find myself wrought with grief as I do every time these events happen... and they KEEP happening. There is a pervasive disease tearing through our communities that must be acknowledged and addressed. A hatred, a loathing so intense and so vile that it feels justified in consuming and taking the lives of fellow children & teachers, fellow humans. It consumes all.
I don't know whether it is extreme disconnect, lack of authentic nurturing, abuse, bullying, mental illness, or what. I suspect a bit of ALL of it. I am in full support of gun control, without question. However, I am not so naïve as to think this will solve these problems. The shootings are the symptoms, the guns are the means, but neither are the actual issue or root cause. And until we face these root causes and DO SOMETHING to address not only the what, but the why... it won't end.
There is an air of intolerance and self-righteous indignation laced with a sense of panicked hopelessness that permeates our society today, on both sides of the fence, leading to bouts of expressed intolerance, hatred, rage, cruelty, and even violence. Please join me in praying for our country right now (to whomever or whatever you pray, if anyone) that healing will begin to take place from deep within. That we may begin to look within rather than without and stop placing blame when our energy could be best spent searching for viable solutions. That we will see these problems not as someone else's, but our own, and seek to find ways to make a difference.
