Talk about a full circle moment 💫 When we moved to the Outer Banks 15 years ago, the first place I worked here in the OBX and taught Zumba at was right in this very room! I’ve been teaching yoga and Pilates at the Y again this past year and when the opportunity to add a dance fitness class to my schedule came up, I was happy to do so! Choreographing dances and sharing in the energy of the music in a group setting brings my heart and soul so much joy! As much as I enjoy the freedom to “just be” a student and not the instructor, there is an inner child part of myself that is living the life she always wanted to live through choreographing dances and sharing in that with you. Seriously, I used to obsess over songs and dance for hours on end. I mean, I had a dance for each song of the Dirty Dancing soundtrack and that’s not even the tip of the iceberg. Let’s not even get into my Richard Simmons obsession! That little girl would be very proud of me!

While this is a dance fitness class and we will BURN 🔥 energy, there are so many layers to teaching this style of dance. It’s for everybody, any level and we show up for any reason. For me, sometimes that reason is just to release and let go. To take an hour and forget about the troubles of the world and just BE and to have FUN! I find deep energetic healing in dance and that is one of the many reasons it is a part of my life. Whatever your reason for showing up is, I love being here for YOU am proud of you for saying YES! to YOU!

Back from an experience of a lifetime.
Japan was a literal dream. ✨

Our bodies and minds need a break every now and then and I definitely felt like it was time for a break. However, within a week of “time off,” my body and mind were ready to get back to a routine.

Granted, we walked for miles and miles pretty much every day for the whole 3 weeks and I made sure to spend time in quiet contemplation and mediation. My body craved stretching and strengthening. So, I pulled out my resistance bands and made do with what I had, focusing on movements to strengthen and maintain mobility and flexibility. And if you know me, you know this is my foundation. I’ll always come back to these basic foundational movements that are tried and proven to maintain strength and flexibility. And the scenery wasn’t too bad either.

I’ve missed you all and am looking forward to seeing you this week! Whether we meet in class or in a private session, know that I am grateful to wake up every day and to get to do this thing called life and grateful that you are a part of it! It’s not work, when you love doing what you do. And I LOVE what I do!

Dropping in to just say hey! And also that I appreciate you. I had a lovely birthday this week and am enjoying it fully! 47! To everyone that told me how young I am I REALLY appreciate you! But in all seriousness, who cares? Let’s live! Enjoying each day to its fullest.

My only complaint about this aging process (at this point in time) would be that my vision isn’t getting any better. For example, when I looked at the screen to take this picture and thought I would see me looking back at myself, I saw an 8 eyed, crazy haired jumping spider in the screen. So, you can blame the poor picture quality and my funny squinty eyes on that. Even with 8 eyes it was a struggle to see! Last pic for reference as to what I saw looking back at me.

If I’ve seen you the past couple of weeks, you may have noticed or we even talked about a heart monitor that I am wearing. While I actually enjoy taking care of my body, mind and spirit this process goes a little deeper than the eye can see. The layers beneath our skin is what really drives me to stay focused on my personal wellbeing. We all have our stories, right? Well, part of mine is I’ve been diagnosed with autoimmune disorders, anemia and a heart condition. If that doesn’t make you stop and consider your lifestyle choices, I don’t know what will. The heart condition is mild, nothing to be concerned about but something to be aware of and to possibly prevent it from getting worse. So, I ask myself, daily, how can I improve or maintain my wellbeing. My approach is holistic and it’s a daily check in for the mind, body and spirit.
