The EMC is a unique rescue facility. We don't have large fancy buildings with air conditioning or lavish surroundings. We are in the swamp and have outdoor enclosures which are exposed to ALL the elements every day of the year. This means that we must also deal with all sorts of critters and predators !!
Our catwalks are high above the ground due to our flooding and for the kits protection. Every year our grounds go under water. With that comes an influx of snakes, spiders, rodents, fire ants, and yes.... even alligators ! It is a constant battle to stay on top of what the swamp can throw at you. We have had panthers, bear, bobcats and even coyotes cross our land. This is just another reason the catwalks are high off the ground. It gives the kits a safety area as well as a place to spot an incoming intruder ! I stay pretty busy down here, but my kits are worth it. Not to mention, that swamp life makes you pretty tough. 😼 👍

Bart ~ 🐈‍⬛

Here is a ' pawsitive ' update on Papa B !!
Thankfully after a full 2 weeks of antibiotic and steroids, Barts tummy is finally healing !!
If you missed his original post/diagnosis, he was taken into the vet for a large, very nasty and inflamed mass on his tummy. You can see now from the picture that his belly is no longer puffy, red & swollen ! It was determined to be an allergic reaction turned into an infection. ( we are unsure what exactly he was allergic to, but I suspect it to be one of the many varieties of skeeters we have down here in the swamp ) Bart is FIV Pos., so his immune system is compromised. Healing took longer than I'd like, but I am just thrilled that the meds took hold and did their job on the swamp king ! Thank you for all the purrayers.

I have often mentioned how gigantic my boy Stone is. 🐈‍⬛

Here you can see how massive he is compared to several of the other kits. Even his little brother Bear who is climbing up to see him seems downright itty bitty. He is surrounded by 3 of the Sopranos, which if you didn't know are all his sisters from a different litter !!

Cray-Cray Kaylee ~ 🐈

Kaylee is such a peculiar kit. I knew early on that she was just a bit ' off ' and unique.... but did you know that she also has a little distinctive and cute feature ?? You'll have to zoom in, but she was born with a tiny goatee. She was brought to me in a box by 2 children that lived down the street and even as a wee kidden her goatee stood out. I circled the goatee in a close-up photo in the comment section.
