✨ At Wilson & Grandpa, we’ve always celebrated the impact of the simple things in life.
✨ Every day you shine a light by sharing with the world your kindness, empathy, understanding, and love - whether that’s to yourself, the people in your community, or your loved one living with Alzheimer’s Disease.

💜 Two years since Abuelo Esteban went to Heaven 💜

I still remember it like it was yesterday. That feeling when my dad called me to give me the news. Although it broke my heart, I knew that he was no longer in pain and that brought comfort to my heart. Doesn’t mean it made grieving any easier.

Two years later… I still miss him so so so much, but I’m grateful for the gift Abuelo gave me, even after his passing. Abuelo inspired me every day and continues to do so. He was so kind, so loving, so sweet to everyone. My role model. He also gave me a community and a platform to advocate and spread awareness about Alzheimer’s Disease. I know it’s not the biggest or the most perfect one (and that there’s SO much I need to learn) but I hope I’m making him proud.

Happy Two Years in Heaven, Abuelo 💜🕊 Thank you for all you did and continue to do for us.

And thank you, my dear community, for being here. 💜

💜 WORLD ALZHEIMER’S DAY 💜

If you meet the following criteria, then you should care about Alzheimer’s Disease and other types of dementia:

✅ You have a brain
✅ That’s it.

(Like our sweet friend says: “if you have a brain, you should care about dementia”)

💜 World Alzheimer’s Day is a great opportunity to learn a little more about Alzheimer’s Disease and what you can do TODAY to honor someone living with the disease, supporting the caregivers, donating to non-profits, prioritizing your brain health, and of course, join the fight against ALZ. 💜

Because we deserve a world without this horrible disease that takes away so much from us and the people we love.

💜 From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for being here. Wilson & Grandpa was created to help me help others understand the world of Alzheimer’s and everyday I’m blown away by the stories I read & the work and dedication you all put out there to spread awareness and keep the conversation going.

💜 Blueberry Lemon Cupcakes 💜 FULL recipe & process in the comments!

This special collab with was put together with the intention of bringing some sweetness to your life and brain! 🧠✨💜🥰

💜 Did you know? Blueberries have a compound that provide an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect! Berries in general can help to increase blood flow to key areas of the brain and improve memory, increase concentration and focus, and even lower dementia risk.

✨ Now, we know that this type cupcakes and sweets are NOT a health food, regardless of the amount of fruits or veggies it may contain.

Following a balanced, healthy diet is key to maintaining overall physical & mental health.

However, when you feel like indulging into something sweet once in a while, we hope that we inspire you to add more goodness & substitute what you can. In this recipe, we used coconut oil instead of vegetable oil, freshly-squeezed lemon instead of lemon extract, and less sugar than other recipes call for (you could even skip it if you’d like!)

Feel free to substitute ingredients as you see fit 💜

As some of you may know, Puerto Rico was hit with hurricane Fiona exactly five years after hurricane Maria.

There’s been so much flooding and devastation. People just got back on their feet to get everything taken away again.

My heart is in my island right now along with my family, friends, and the resilient people of Puerto Rico.

Dear Wilson & Grandpa family,
Here I present to you, “Grandpa”. 💜
Esteban Santos, my grandpa. An inspiration to many. A believer. A husband, a father, a friend, a L O V E D one.

He battled so much, and he never stopped smiling. Wow. Brings tears to my eyes to think about his sweet smile even in the days we knew he was in so much pain.

In October 25th, 2020, Grandpa went to Heaven. It’s been three months and although I’m sad that he’s no longer with us, I’m so grateful that he left behind a beautiful legacy.

I’m so grateful that I get to be part of this community and that I get to connect with others that have been affected by a disease that takes away so much from us.

I’m grateful that I learned from him how to be strong, never lose faith, and love everyone. I’m grateful that I got to see my Grandma, Norma, “El amor de mi vida” como decía abuelo, taking care of him for so many years and showing that love can do it all.

To MyGrandpa, Esteban Santos, thank you. I will try my best to bring sunshine and spread love and kindness just like you did.

Te amo por siempre y para siempre. Y te extraño mucho.

💜 We tend to think that to take care of ourselves we have to put an EXTREME amount of effort. In some cases, that’s the way it might feel. Truth is, nothing will come easy. Especially if there’s no consistency!

✨ DAY 4: Learn Basic Greetings in a Foreign Language ✨

💜 Hi, Hola, 안녕하세요, こんにちは, Bonjour, 你好, مرحبا, здрасти, hallo, hej 😊✨👋

💜 Learning a foreign language has many benefits to your brain! It keeps your processing functions in great shape, can dense up your grey matter (area that contains nerve cells & other things to help process information), and help with memory!

Not only these amazing great brain health benefits, but also isn’t it great being able to communicate with others in their language? 💜

Learning foreign languages is fascinating✨

The post has a couple of Japanese greetings but my picture is of Chinese characters!

My native language is Spanish 🇵🇷 and I learned English at a very young age — without me even realizing feels like! How crazy is that? I didn’t move to the US until I was 16, and I was comfortable speaking English with everyone, probably because I’m a very talkative person 😂🗣 BUT seems like I’ll never get rid of my accent — which I’ve learned to love and accept! 🥰 and of course, I keep on learning!

✨ I also have a bookshelf FULL of books in Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and other languages. I would love to become fluent one day in at least ONE more! So fingers crossed!

✨ DAY 3: Read pages 20-35 of a random book ✨

💜 Reading is probably one of the best brain-stimulating exercises you can do!

It’s like giving a “workout” to your brain and in return, it can improve memory function and many other great benefits.

💜 For today, I picked up this random book from my bookshelf called “Pitch Perfect” — and in those 15 pages I learned what NOT to do when you’re talking to a large audience (i.e. don’t picture the crowd in their underwear) so it was nice to obtain a new perspective by taking only 15 minutes of my day! 🥰📚

✨ DAY 1: Ten-minute outdoor power walk!

Words cannot describe how EXCITED I was to start the challenge— all thanks to YOU for your support and great feedback!

Today I took a walk around my neighborhood and although it was a little gloomy, it certainly worked for my benefit because it wasn’t too hot!

After working all day indoors, it was night to go out and enjoy fresh air!

💜🧠✨ Walking (and any type of movement) helps improve blood flow & circulation to your brain and body.

This can result in increase energy and stamina, improved sleep and of course, linked to better cognitive function and protection against decline.

💜 I know 10 MINUTES it’s not “enough”, but HEY! 10 minutes of moving your body & enjoying the beautiful outdoors is better than nothing!

I hope that you enjoyed day ONE of !

To implement little things on our daily lives that intentionally stimulate our brain and keep our mind active.

💜 Why 21 Days?

Starting on August 31st, so the last day of the challenge falls on September 21st — World Alzheimer’s Day 2022.

And that day we can reflect on the impact we have on our brain health. Because Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia are NOT a normal part of aging, and there’s many things we can do to take care of ourselves today 💜

Together we can bring awareness to this!

💜 GIVEAWAY — for those who participate at least 4 days, we will be entering you to a special giveaway and items will he announce in the next few days!

💜 For the times want to send love and all the good vibes to our family, friends, and incredible people within our community. Sometimes distance other circumstances don’t let us be there physically to show how much we care.

💜 In the meantime, you can send a special, handmade Pocket Hug for them to remember that they’re not alone.

💜 A new addition to our Care Collection, these pocket hugs are in collaboration with Georgina, 💜

Adding to our efforts to support small businesses and spread awareness about Alzheimer’s + other types of dementia. Georgina is a caregiver to her grandma, and creates beautiful crafts available for sale — and 10% of the proceeds go to Dementia UK. 💜

💜 This design is exclusive for Wilson & Grandpa and will be available very soon. You will be able to personalize a note to send it to a special person in your life that needs a little support and love. 🥰

💜 Remember that ALL proceeds from W&G are put back in the project, with 20% being donated to , a non-profit organization based in Puerto Rico that educated the community & brings financial relief to people living with Alzheimer’s Disease and their caregivers.

💜 Give less CHANGED, your loved one gets more RELAXATION

✨ Thank you to all the amazing caregivers I’ve seen that have shown incredible examples of this approach and for encouraging others to always prioritize their loved one’s independence, dignity, and comfort. We can all always learn something new so I hope this post helps you out!

💜 Because it doesn’t matter how long it’s been…grief is inevitable 💔
💜 It’s okay if you look back and it hurts from time to time.
💜 I’m so grateful for all the memories and that he was the best grandpa ever. It will be almost two years since his passing and it still hurts 💜🥺
