After attending the ISSN conference for many years, this year I’ll be on stage presenting—a milestone I’m truly proud of.

My talk is based on a systematic review on carbohydrate periodization in elite professional male soccer:
🎙️ Carbohydrate Periodization Strategies in Elite Professional Male Soccer Players: A Systematic Review of Performance and Recovery Outcomes
🗓️ June 18, 2026

Why this matters for you as a professional athlete: carbs aren’t “high or low” — they’re a performance tool. The goal is to match intake to training load so you can:

✅️hit high-intensity sessions with quality
✅️recover faster between games/travel
✅️reduce “heavy legs” and late-game drop-offs
✅️stay consistent across congested schedules

I’ll be sharing practical takeaways I use with athletes: match-day fueling, heavy/light day targets, and recovery timing.

Train the body 💥
Care about what you eat 🥑
And keep the balance 🧘‍♂️

That’s how I live sport and nutrition: real, consistent and conscious 🤍

Being present where science is built is part of my commitment to excellence.

Attending the ISSN Annual Conference reinforces a core principle of elite sports nutrition: performance is driven by evidence, continuous education, and critical thinking, not trends.

This is where the latest research on supplementation, body composition, recovery, and human performance is discussed-directly from the scientists shaping our field

As Fight Fuel Nutritionist, my mission is to translate science into practical, effective, and safe strategies for athletes who demand the highest level of performance.
Growth never stops when excellence is the goal.

Another year.
Another chance to become the athlete—and the person—you’ve always known you could be.

2025 is done.
Every win, every loss, every hard lesson brought you here.
Now comes the part that matters: what you do next.

At the highest level, talent opens the door.
But it’s character, discipline, and daily standards that decide who stays there.

Greatness is built quietly.
In the choices no one sees.
In giving up times with family and vacations
In the patience to do things properly.
In the courage to slow down when needed—and to push when it counts.

As an Italian, I’ve learned that excellence is never rushed.
It’s rooted in care, tradition, and respect—for the process and for yourself.
Bring that same mindset to your craft, every single day.

2026 is not about doing more.
It’s about doing what matters, with intent.

Raise your standards.
Respect your body.
Honor your commitments.
Show up—for yourself and for those who believe in you.

Challenges will come. That’s part of the journey.
When they do, remember why you started—and who you’re becoming.

This year is yours.
Make it focused. Make it meaningful. Make it extraordinary. Happy 2026!!!

What you eat before a practice or game isn’t a detail — it’s a performance variable.

Carbohydrates before competition top off glycogen stores and stabilize blood glucose, which matters even more for morning sessions when overnight fasting leaves you partially depleted. The science is clear and consistent: adequate pre-event carbohydrate intake improves endurance capacity, sustains high-intensity output, and delays fatigue when the pace is unforgiving.

Most evidence points to a range of 1–4 g of carbohydrate per kg of body weight, consumed 1–4 hours pre-competition, depending on tolerance, schedule, and sport demands. It’s not about a single “perfect” meal — it’s about timing and digestibility.

Think bigger, slower-digesting carbs 3–4 hours out. Shift to lighter, easier options as kickoff or tip-off approaches. If needed, quick-digesting carbs in the final 30–60 minutes can bridge the gap without sitting heavy.

The takeaway is simple but often overlooked: pre-game fueling isn’t about feeling full. It’s about making sure your muscles have the glycogen they need to execute at peak capacity when decisions are fast, margins are tight, and fatigue shows no mercy.

That's why chugging water alone isn't enough during intense practices or games.
When football players train hard in the heat, they can lose 2+ liters of sweat per hour. Replace the water but not the sodium? Hello, cramping and fatigue.

Here's what actually works:

✅ Sessions over 90 minutes? Add sodium (sports drinks, electrolyte mixes, or salty snacks)
✅ Heavy sweater or prone to cramping? You need MORE sodium than your teammates
✅ Post-practice? Rehydrate with 150% of what you lost + sodium for real recovery

The "drink water" advice isn't wrong—it's just incomplete.

Every athlete sweats differently. What works for your teammate might not work for you. That's where testing your sweat rate and personalizing your strategy makes all the difference.

👉 Want to start finishing practice strong? Let's dial in YOUR hydration and sodium plan.

This past weekend reminded me of something powerful:

You don’t grow by chance—you grow by choice.

Choosing to learn.
Choosing to show up.
Choosing to put yourself in rooms filled with people who challenge, inspire, and expand your vision.

The certification is the achievement—but the real win is the mindset, the conversations, and the connections that will shape the next chapter.

Grateful for everyone I met, everything I learned, and the momentum that comes when you commit to self-improvement.

Let’s keep building—one step, one skill, one relationship at a time.

I’ve worked with world-class athletes across multiple sports—some literally the best on the planet.

None of them eat “perfectly.”
Not one.
Hitting 85–90% of their nutrition plan is already a great week.

They go out to dinner.
They have a beer with teammates.
They enjoy dessert.
They live like humans—because they are human.

What they don’t do is fall for trends or fear food:

❌ No extreme “optimization hacks”
❌ No stressing over fruit combinations because it lowers polyphenols content
❌ No fear of caffeine first thing in the morning
❌ No cutting out certain foods or ingredients
❌ No chasing whatever goes viral this week

Elite athletes don’t waste energy on noise.
They master fundamentals—relentlessly:

✔️ Control calories
✔️ Get enough high-quality protein
✔️ Eat plants every day
✔️ Fuel training with carbs
✔️ Hydrate like it matters
✔️ Repeat the process. Always.

That’s what makes them elite.
Not perfection—precision and consistency.

Yes, we use advanced sports nutrition strategies…
but only after years of locking in the basics that create 90% of the results.

Trying to be “perfect” 100% of the time is the fastest path to burnout, frustration, and disordered eating.

If you want long-term performance in sports—prioritize:

🏆 Balance
🏆 Mastery of fundamentals
🏆 Consistency over perfection

That’s how pros thrive.
That’s how careers last.
That’s how champions are built.
