Why did I become a postpartum doula?

Because too many moms are navigating the tender season after birth without the support they truly need.

Because postpartum is more than the first six weeks— it's a time of healing, learning, stretching, and becoming. And no one should walk that alone.

Because in a culture that praises “bouncing back,”
I want to honor the beauty of becoming.

Because I’ve lived through the hard parts myself—
and I know how much it means to have someone hold space for you.

Because postpartum matters.
You matter.

And you were never meant to do this alone.

✨ Newborn sleep isn’t easy—and if you're up Googling “how to get my baby to sleep longer,” you're not alone. 💛

In the early weeks, sleep looks nothing like what we expect. Short stretches. Unpredictable rhythms. Exhaustion. And lots of wondering: Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong?

The truth? You’re not. You're doing beautifully in the middle of the mess.

On the blog today, I'm sharing:
🌙 How much newborn sleep is actually normal
🍼 Whether you should wake your baby to feed
🛏️ Gentle ways to support longer stretches of sleep
🕓 When (and if!) you need a schedule
🧡 Why sleep training can wait

✨ If you're ready to swap late-night stress for a little more rest, this one’s for you.

Hello! Jes here 👋 the founder of Goodness and Grace Doula Co. and a postpartum doula who believes in showing up for families with tenderness, presence, and compassion.

I’m also a mama to two little ones 🩵 who have shaped me in all the best ways. My journey into motherhood wasn’t picture-perfect — I’m a NICU and preemie mom, and a survivor of postpartum depression. Those experiences left a deep imprint on my heart and are part of what fuels my passion for walking alongside others during the tender days after birth. I know what it’s like to feel exhausted, overwhelmed, in love, and unsure — sometimes all at once.

Outside of doula work, I’m an artist at heart 🎨 Creativity grounds me, whether I’m painting, crafting something for my home, or hunting for treasures as the proud thrifting queen I am. I collect mugs like memories (there’s always one to match the mood), and few things make me feel more at peace than a quiet morning with a warm cup of coffee in hand.

As a wife, a mother, a creative, and a woman who’s lived the raw beauty and challenge of postpartum life, I bring all of myself into this work. My goal is simple: to hold space for your healing, to help you feel seen and supported, and to remind you that you are doing beautifully — even on the hard days ❤️‍🩹

With Goodness and Grace, you are never alone. I’m so glad you’re here! 😊

1 in 5 mothers will face a perinatal mood disorder. I am 1 in 5.

Maternal Mental Health Day holds deep meaning for me. I experienced depression during and after pregnancy—and after my second child was born, I faced intense postpartum rage. At one point, I even needed hospitalization - which ultimately is what helped me out of it.

But I want you to know: there IS hope. You are never alone in this.

My own journey through postpartum challenges is what led me to become a doula. At Goodness and Grace Doula Co, I serve families in Lancaster, Chester, and Berks counties with compassion and understanding, because I’ve been there too.

If you're struggling, please reach out. You don’t have to do this alone.

It took me two years to feel like myself again after giving birth—but not the same self. A new version of me was quietly taking shape. Not overnight, not all at once. Slowly, through sleepless nights, quiet moments of joy, and the messy, beautiful work of mothering.

No one told me that ‘getting back to myself’ would really mean growing into someone new. That the pieces wouldn’t fit the same way, and that was okay.

If you’re in that space—wondering when you’ll feel like you again—know this: You are not lost. You are becoming. And that takes time, tenderness, and so much grace.

At Goodness and Grace Doula Co., I hold space for this becoming. You don’t have to do it alone.

Let’s talk about what support can look like for you in postpartum. Reach out today or share this with someone who needs the reminder.

Today, we hold space.

On this Bereaved Mother's Day, we honor the mothers whose arms ache, whose hearts carry both love and loss.

To the mothers who have said goodbye too soon, to those who carry their babies in memory rather than in their arms—you are seen, you are held, you are forever a mother.

At Goodness and Grace Doula Co., we recognize the tenderness of this day. We whisper your name with reverence and surround your grief with gentleness.

May you feel the quiet strength of your love today and always.

With grace,
Jes | Goodness and Grace Doula Co.

May is Maternal Mental Health Month, and we're here to say what so many parents need to hear:

You’re not the only one who feels this way. You’re not alone, and you never have to be.

Postpartum is raw, tender, overwhelming, and beautiful—often all in the same hour. At Goodness & Grace Doula Co., we walk with you through those in-between moments, when everyone else has gone home and you're left wondering if you're doing it right (you are).

Let’s break the stigma. Let’s talk about it. Let’s support each other better.

When I’m not supporting new moms, I’m soaking up sweet moments with my own little ones.

Today’s adventure took us to the farm—feeding cows, lots of giggles, and dirty hands.

Grateful for this beautiful, simple life 🤍
