Upgrades for Sweet Cravings
Have fun, be creative, boost and balance your sweet cravings with upgrades and twists that contain protein, healthy fats, vitamins, fiber and antioxidants! Examples below!
1. CRAVING: ICE CREAM
*Upgrade: Power Parfait*
Build It: Start with plain or flavored Greek yogurt at the bottom of a cup or mug. Add a layer of whipped cream, followed by a layer of berries or bananas. Repeat. Top with sprinkles, chocolate chips, nuts, honey, or granola.
Nutritional Boost: Added protein and calcium from yogurt, antioxidants from berries, potassium from bananas, B-vitamins from granola and nuts.
Benefit: Supports muscles, bones and energy.
2. CRAVING: COOKIES
*Upgrade: Crispy Rice Crunch Cakes*
Build It: Take a flavored rice cake (caramel, apple cinnamon, chocolate), top with peanut butter (or Nutella), add sliced apples on top.
Nutritional Boost: Added protein from peanut butter, fiber and antioxidants from apple.
Benefits: Supports muscles.
3. CRAVING: CANDY
*Upgrade: Sweet & Salty Charcuterie Board*
Build It: Find a plate. Place a small handful of your favorite candy on a section of the plate. Place walnuts or your favorite nuts in another section. Place fresh orange wedges in another section and pretzels in another as well. This option is about providing balance while including a favorite candy but not making candy the main focus!
Nutritional Boost: Healthy fats and B vitamins from walnuts, vitamin C from oranges.
Benefits: Supports heart and immune health.
