The Dental Assistant/Patient Services Representative works under general supervision.

Daily Operations

Sets up and take radiographs (digital and/or manual), develops and logs in x-rays taken.
Checks developing solutions and logs x-rays taken.
Checks developing solutions levels for freshness in automatic and manual developers.
Assists in taking patient’s vital signs.
Takes digital radiographs, and has the ability to export them to different formats.


The Patient Services Representative is responsible for performing all aspects of the front facing patient experience.

Daily Operations

Scheduling patient appointments and making reminder calls.
Informing patients about delays and waiting times.
Obtaining patients’ addresses, contact details, insurance information, and medical histories.
Updating and verifying patient information at every visit.
Assisting patients in filling out patient history forms, consent forms, and payment contract forms, when necessary.
Receiving and processing cash and credit card payments for medical services rendered.
Reviewing patient accounts, identifying delinquent accounts, and collecting overdue payments.
Answering, investigating, and/or directing patient inquiries or complaints to the appropriate medical staff member.
Following up with patients to ensure their inquiry or complaint has been satisfactorily resolved.
Performing administrative and clerical duties, such as filing paperwork, when necessary.


Required Skills

Professional and courteous, ability to multi-task and knowledge of dental terminology and HIPPA.
Ability to evaluate and assist students in chair procedures.
Ability to understand technical and medical nomenclature.
Knowledge of names and use of dental instruments and equipment.
Knowledge of basic methods of dental record keeping and reporting.
Knowledge of sterilization techniques and procedures

Required Experience

High School or Equivalent Diploma required
Completion of a dental assistant program and registration with the State of Tennessee required
Prior experience working with 2D, and 3D radiology equipment preferred
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a medical/dental receptionist, insurance processor or a similar position in a medical/dental office, hospital, insurance company, health plan or other health related facility preferred
Experience with computerized scheduling and billing systems preferred
Bilingual preferred

The Onboarding Coordinator is responsible for pre-employment screening process to include background check and drug screen scheduling, extending employment offers and facilitating the onboarding process for a new hire, including New Hire Paperwork. Initiates the setup on new hire electronic employee files. Acts as a liaison between the departments and Staffing agencies to coordinate temporary workforce.



• Provide superior customer service to candidates and internal & external customers throughout the onboarding process; ensure all verbal and written communications are accurate, clear, concise and professional.
• Works collaboratively with the Recruiter, HR, department heads and others to coordinate the successful and seamless onboarding of new hires.
• Acts as the primary liaison between departments and potential hires.
• Manages the pre-employment background screening and drug testing process and ensures necessary clearances are received prior to start date. Conducts licensure, abuse registry and DMV checks prior to start date
• Responsible for initiating the set up on new hire’s electronic employee file.
• Acts as the point of contact for all staffing vendors - selection of candidates, and act as the liaison between the College and the vendor
• Extend job offers to qualified candidates and confirms acceptance with hiring managers.
• Communicates with all the parties deemed necessary that a new hire is coming aboard and to make preparations.
• Maintains applicant tracking and onboarding systems
• Participate in job fairs and networking events in the community
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Knowledge of general human resource topics (recruiting, application process, interviewing, hiring)
• Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office, familiar with and able to use computers, able to learn new software
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Prior experience using applicant tracking software.
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
• Basic knowledge of employment laws.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of one (1) year human resources recruitment experience or other related experience required. A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a service-provider environment that requires self-management and multi-tasking.

The Meharry SOM offers its condolences to the family and friends of beloved Meharrian Dr. Medhat Kalliny on his untimely death. Dr. Kalliny served as professor and vice chair for clinical affairs and director of the Family Medicine Residency Program in the Meharry SOM. He was also a family medicine physician practicing with Meharry Medical Group known for his kind and loving spirit and deep concern for his patients. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Chaplain services and Counseling services are available to Meharrians.
