Music City.

The Jubilee Singers of Nashville Tennessee’s Fisk University are responsible for the name sake. Formed in 1871, the a ca****la singing group was the first musical act to tour the world. They did so, raising money to help save the school from financially ruin. Their efforts helped the school to continue its mission of educating freed slaves after the Civil War. Comprised of all but two former slaves, they introduced a beautifully haunting sound that would bring world wide awareness to the sins of a young nation. All the while inspiring audiences to the likes of Kings, Queens, a President and a writer by the name of Mark Twain. Who once said:

“ I would walk seven miles to hear them sing again”.

It was on a tour through England when Queen Victoria heard their voices and remarked:

“They must come from a Music City”.

Giving Nashville the moniker that it would come to be known by, for the first time.
