Imagine this... You have been super busy and have not been able to workout for the last two weeks. You are starting to feel sluggish and realize that your energy has been lower since you are not prioritizing movement. You decide enough is enough and you re-commit to walking 5-10k steps a day. After a week you have more energy and feel revitalized from spending time in nature. Since you're feeling better and have more energy, you decide to add 30 minutes of strength training 2-3 times a week. In a few weeks you are feeling stronger and confident and now you want to focus on adding fruits and vegetables to your meals.

You are in a positive feedback loop. When you feel your best, you will inevitably make better choices that CONTINUE to help you feel your best. Rinse and repeat.

REAL TALK... It's hard to know where to go when you don't know where you are starting from. So here's the deal. The biggest dial mover is consistency. It doesn't matter if you change your entire diet and exercise every single day for a month...then stop. It matters more to remain consistent week after week, focusing on small, manageable goals. Once they are mastered, adding additional changes becomes easier.

If you think you're being consistent, then prove it! What is the best way to do that? Try a consistency calendar.

Use a paper or virtual calendar to track your progress. It will give you a clear picture of how you are actually doing. Aim for 80-90%, which is about 27 days per month. You can put a check mark on days you reach your 1-2 goals, and a circle around days you miss.

Once you look at your calendar, you will be able to truly assess how consistent you were. If you were not able to check off 27 days, why was that? I encourage clients to write the reason why they missed their check on the calendar as well. When you know what your roadblocks are, you can address them head on. Then aim for increased consistency the next month.

You are in it for the long haul. The goal is to create meaningful, sustainable changes over time. So let's get honest and get going!
