OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH!!

According to the CDC, Intimate partner violence (IPV) is abuse or aggression that occurs in a romantic relationship.

“Intimate partner” refers to both current and former spouses and dating partners and can vary in how often it happens and how severe it is.

It can range from one episode of violence that could have lasting impact to chronic and severe episodes over multiple years. IPV can include any of the following types of behavior:

Physical violence is when a person hurts or tries to hurt a partner by hitting, kicking, or using another type of physical force.

Sexual violence is forcing or attempting to force a partner to take part in a s*x act, s*xual touching, or a non-physical s*xual event (e.g., s*xting) when the partner does not or cannot consent.

Stalking is a pattern of repeated, unwanted attention and contact by a partner that causes fear or concern for one’s own safety or the safety of someone close to the victim.

Psychological aggression is the use of verbal and non-verbal communication with the intent to harm a partner mentally or emotionally and/or to exert control over a partner.

Remember there are resources out there to help end the silence. If you or a loved one is experiencing any form of domestic violence, please seek out resources.

You are not alone. Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or TEXT START to 88788, if you or someone else you know is in need of assistance, they are open 24-7-365.

Having Signs of Allergies?

myHBCUmd can help you!!

An allergy is a reaction by your immune system to something that does not bother most other people. People who have allergies often are sensitive to more than one thing such as pollen, mold, pet dander, foods or medicines.

Normally, your immune system fights germs and is known as your body's defense system. In most allergic reactions, however, it is responding to a false alarm. As a result, allergies can cause a variety of symptoms such as a runny nose, coughing, sneezing, itching, watery or itchy eyes, rashes, swelling, shortness of breath or asthma. In each case, allergies can range from minor to severe depending on your body's reaction and can make you feel bad.

Please consult your primary doctor or a board certified doctor with myHBCUmd if you have additional questions about your allergies or any allergic reactions you may need treatment for.
