On a random day in 2016, three practicing clinicians decided there was a lot of misinformation on the world wide web when it came to functional medicine, nutrition, and genetics. There were groups dedicated to gene mutations, pages devoted to scaring individuals into following rigid “nutritional” guidelines, and millions of people just searching for answers not willingly given to them by their doctors. With a motivation to help as many people as humanly possible and the ability to merge their knowledge and strengths for a bigger cause, the doctors decided to start a blog, an educational website, a safe place for people to discover the truth about healthcare. All of a sudden, Maximized Genetics was born.
Little did they know, the Universe had bigger plans for MG. While the over all goal was to educate the general public, the method for which that education took place changed dramatically. Enter the Ph.D. geneticists. All of a sudden, the educational blog had the potential to turn into a proper lab. While the good doctors had clinical practice down and knew exactly what they wanted to provide to their patients, the geneticists offered an opportunity to take the clinical practice into the lab, a place where the needed SNPs could be tested with little effort. Just a few short months into creating Maximized Genetics, the CLIA certified lab was open for business.
Between Facebook connections and a growing band of functional practitioners, the interest in methylation and nutrition specific panels took off. The clinicians created reports that took genetic information and boiled it down to actionable steps for the end user. More panels have been added to the mix, including a fitness test, a practitioner only panel, and a cannabinoid receptor panel (all coming soon). Even a supplement line with genetically approved ingredients became an opportunity.
This seemingly magical experience has not been without hardships. Between hurricanes, email server snafus, and such a fast expansion, growing pains have been difficult. However, the clinicians have always kept a transparent work flow, constantly trying to keep up with customer needs and providing only the best. Plus, the original goal is still at the forefront of progress: educate and empower the public. Amazing things are coming soon.
