October is a beautiful month, and a difficult month for me as I navigate memories and deep knowing around pregnancy and loss, relationship and domestic violence, breast cancer and resilience, Down Syndrome and friendship, Italian-American heritage and identity, mental health and family ❤

When I co-created Saturday morning Trauma Informed Yoga sessions with I knew there would be a steep curve to climb, and yet I am surprised by how many people don"t believe their experience is worthy of the work. There is no comparison between our pains, each is personal and as unique as the one experiencing it - Big and Bad, small and frequent, covert, overt, generational, environmental... Saturday yoga is for anyone whose pains need recognizing and exorcising through movement and small acts of agency (making your own choices for yourself in the moment).

"Boundaries are the distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously.” – Prentis Hemphil

I heard this today on a podcast and gasped.

I felt a new kind of freedom.

I don't have to defend myself.

I can say no AND love you AND be respectful all at the same time.

What you do with that is up you, and I don't have to stick around for the show if the price is too high.

I never would have believed that I'd willingly roll out of bed at 7am on Saturdays... We meet up in a small group to start quietly and wake steadily through movement and breathing. No judgment, no need to turn on your video, just 30 mins of reconnecting with your body and mind one small, consistent choice at a time.
Join BRA Group Members and Alight Ashram Saturdays at 7am-7:30am for yoga that's good for all bodies, all experiences. Register at https://www.alightashram.com/traumainformedyoga

It seems like suddenly the last summer days have given way to woolly socks and pumpkin spice... and I like it. I'll miss summer until she returns, but I'm grateful for Fall's change of scenery. What are you grateful for in October?

The most glorious, indescribably beautiful new day - EVERY DAY

Every choice cuts both ways. I don't get to see sunrise or say goodbye to the moon without an early alarm pulling me out of delicious sleep.

Each new day is a blank page in the diary of your life. The secret of success is in turning that diary into the best story you possibly can. - Douglas Pagels

Why do we practice yoga together? Because healing happens through the interconnectedness of being with one another in community.

But what about the times when it's hard to be around humans? The times of confusion, sadness, despair, hurt? It can be hard to roll out of bed or off the sofa, to leave the house and walk into something less private. I understand. I do.

Alight Ashram is the space between, the place for small and private group practice together but from wherever you feel safe - even if that means keeping your camera off for an entire session.

In Trauma Sensitive Yoga and Slow Yoga we approach one another with love and care. Join us this October as we introduce new opportunities to be met where you are, as you are.

I feel that it is healthier to look out at the world through a window than through a mirror. Otherwise, all you see is yourself and whatever is behind you. - Bill Withers
Ego can keep us shackled to ourselves. Yoga can help us stay present and engaged without the chains of ego weighing down our experience. How has practicing yoga (including meditation) helped you be present with equanimity (a stable mental and emotional state)?

To live in the light of a new day and an unimaginable and unpredictable future, you must become fully present to a deeper truth - not a truth from your head, but a truth from your heart; not a truth from your ego, but a truth from the highest source. - Debbie Ford
Monday mornings are like little celebrations around here - there is always an anticipation for what's to come (after hitting snooze a couple of times).
This week Alight Ashram will be introducing a new evening class for October. Click the link in bio for membership, members only specials and discounted pricing! Early bird membership (FREE lifetime offer) ends Dec 31st.

Have you been looking outwardly to find yourself again?
It happens.
Come back to yourself now, in this moment. Look inward with love and compassion. Tend to your heart, your mind and your body.

I truly believe that everything that we do and everyone that we meet is put in our path for a purpose. There are no accidents; we're all teachers - if we're willing to pay attention to the lessons we learn, trust our positive instincts and not be afraid to take risks or wait for some miracle to come knocking at our door. - Marla Gibbs

We
Are
All
Teachers

The greatest gift yoga has given me is the gift of deep listening without the barrier of ego blocking my path. Listening is learning. And while it's true, I do love being a teacher; I will always first be a student.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them. - Laurence Binyon

There is now a generation of people who do not remember the disbelief and dreadfulness of 9/11 or the days and weeks of agonizing aftermath. They cannot comprehend the heroism of all who gave of themselves for others.

How we remember as individuals and as a nation will be the only connection they have to our collective experience.

Unfolding The Petals of Life: Day 5 Compassion (where the gloves come off and sh*t gets real)

Was Albert Einstein a yogi??

A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. - Albert Einstein

Leading into the last day of unfolding the petals of our daily experiences through the lenses of love, responsibility, equanimity, creativity and compassion, I landed on this surprising sentiment. Albert Einstein knew the secret of the universe.
Who needs e=mc2 when love really is all we need?

curiosity piqued, new connections formed, thank you for opening my eyes to a beautiful and open heart

Our Story

Fearfully & Wonderfully Made • She is clothed with strength and dignity, and laughs without fear of the future. I have been a Yogi for more than half of my life, and yoga has always been the foundation that informs my interpretation of fitness and wellness. I understand that that challenging “what is” can be frightening, that wanting more can be intimidating, and that no one achieves his or her full potential alone - on or off the mat. I am an educator whose purpose is to empower others to achieve their highest potential.

I want to help you build a MINDFUL · DEDICATED · KICKASS practice.
