✨AUTUMN’S STORY✨

I just gave birth to my second baby with Jessica as my doula, and I simply would never want to do it without her support! She provides the most valuable and helpful information throughout the entire pregnancy to help prepare you mentally and physically for what you’re about to experience in the birth process. In the birth room, she carries a peace about her that has enabled me to feel confident and grounded in both of my births. When I felt like I couldn’t keep going, I would catch her eye and it would bring me back to earth and help me press through the discomfort. She is a wealth of knowledge. She knows how each labor symptom relates to what baby is doing during the process of birth, and will guide you in comfort measures or techniques to try to get your body to do what it needs to do to progress. It’s incredible to experience and has prevented me from needing unnecessary interventions in the hospital setting. In both of my hospital births, there were situations where she stepped in to advocate for my birth plan preferences, and/or for informed consent. I mean it when I say I would never want to birth without her present in the room. She has become a dear friend to me and someone I trust wholeheartedly. You are 100% safe with Jessica and I highly recommend her support services through abounding grace.

“Upright labour positioning is associated with quicker labour times, a decrease in the rate of intervention and a 25% decrease in primary caesarean rate” (Gams, et al 2019)

Research shows that upright and mobile positions during labor—like walking, swaying, squatting, or leaning forward—can help labor move more efficiently. Gravity helps baby descend, the pelvis can open more fully, and contractions often become more effective.

Evidence also suggests that upright positions may:
• Shorten the length of labor
• Reduce the likelihood of cesarean birth
• Improve fetal positioning
• Decrease the need for certain interventions

As doulas, we encourage movement and position changes because labor is not meant to happen lying flat in a bed. Your body instinctively knows how to move your baby down and out.
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do in labor is simply get up and move. 💛

The Birth Sling was lovingly created for Birthing Mamas and Birth Workers as a way to support upright and active labour positions no matter where you chose to birth.

Save this for later and share with an expecting mama who should know their options in labor.

They say labor is a marathon, but who wants to eat during a marathon? 🏃‍♀️💨 Literally.

Many people (including in that intense, iconic scene) totally lose their appetite. It’s not just a myth—the intensity of labor means your body is way too busy to worry about food. 🚫🍔

💡PRO DOULA TIP: Eat often during the PRE-labor before things to spicey to store up your fuel for active labor. And then focus on hydration, listen to your body, and don’t force it if you aren’t feeling it! 🥤✨

For all those watching SisterWives asking why they don’t eat:
1️⃣ Your digestive system basically shuts down.
2️⃣ Nausea is real during transition.
3️⃣ Honestly, you’re just too busy bringing a human into the world to eat a sandwich. 👶

Although you may be contracting, if you still have an appetite you’re most likely not in ACTIVE labor‼️

💡 PRO DOULA TIPS:
✨Eat often during PRE-labor before things start to get spicy in active labor. 🥵 The spacing in between contractions during pre-labor will give you the time you need to start storing up your fuel for later.
Focus on HYDRATION.
✨ Proper hydration helps prevent maternal exhaustion, maintains optimal uterine blood flow, and can result in shorter, more effective labors

Ever heard of a “peanut ball” and wondered what that weirdly shaped thing in the hospital room is for? 🥜
🤔 Meet one of the most effective, evidence-based tools in the birthing room!
It’s an inflatable, peanut-shaped yoga ball designed to be used in bed (especially for folks with an epidural!) to keep the pelvis open and help baby descend even when mama is resting.
As a doula, I love the peanut ball because it helps make the pelvis more spacious! It’s a game-changer for reducing labor times and lowering the risk of C-sections.
How do we use it to help labor progress? 🚀
✨ Side-lying: Placing the ball between the knees while side-lying (with the top leg draped over) allows us to widen the pelvic outlet, making space for baby to rotate and move down.
✨ Semi-reclining: By propping the bed up and placing the ball between the legs, we keep the pelvis open even when you need to rest.
✨ “Stalled” Labor: If labor slows down, this tool helps baby change positions and re-engage, often getting things moving again without needing more intervention.
The best part? You don’t have to be up walking to get the benefits of movement. The peanut ball does the work for you while you rest! 😴✨
Do not wait for your nurse to bring it—ask for it! Say: “Can I have a peanut ball to help keep labor moving?” 📣
💡 Pro-Tip: Switch sides every 30-60 minutes to keep the pelvis balanced!
