Sometimes you look back and realize the change did not begin in some dramatic moment... Rather, it instead began the day you got honest about what was NOT working. Maybe it was the day you stopped telling yourself to push through. The day you decided support was not weakness, but wisdom!

A lot of people wait until they are completely exhausted to do something different. Burnout isn't the only time you have to actually make a move to change the way you're living your life. Change isn't a last resort -- you know this.

The real turning point is much more subtle. It's the consultation you finally book, the conversation you finally have, or the decision to stop functioning in survival mode and start building a life that's clearer, steadier, and everything you're grinding towards.

Some people learned how to survive so well that no one realizes how much it still costs them. You may be high functioning, dependable, successful, and still carrying patterns that were built in abuse, neglect, chaos, or instability. It's not your fault!

Survivor mentality doesn't always look obvious — folks get really savvy with hiding it. Sometimes it looks like overworking, overgiving, emotional guardedness, difficulty resting, poor boundaries, or feeling responsible for everything and everyone. Unfortunately, what helped you survive then may now be the very thing wearing you down.

What a wonderful day with the Nashville Metro Police Department!

At the end of March, I was honored to spend the day leading a four-hour Workplace Wellness training for Metro’s administrative and support professionals.

Before you can be a healthy employee, you have to learn how to be a healthy person. That means taking an honest look at the habits, mindset, boundaries, and wellness practices that support you both personally and professionally!

I must give a heartfelt thank you to Angie Orsbom for her leadership, coordination, and care in making this training possible. I was also grateful to have speak into the physical wellness portion of our training! It says a great deal about Metro that they are being so proactive and wellness-focused, especially within a first responder industry where the demands and stress can be so high. Supporting the well-being of the people behind the scenes matters so much, and it was a privilege to be part of that effort.

Parenting a teen or young adult can expose every place where you feel powerless.

It can bring up fear, guilt, confusion, grief, and old wounds you thought you had already dealt with. And when a relationship feels strained, distant, or unpredictable, many parents start blaming themselves while still not knowing what to do next.

Support matters! You may need help understanding your own responses, staying grounded in hard conversations, setting healthier boundaries, or learning how to show up without overcontrolling, rescuing, or shutting down.

Land. They don’t make any more of it. I had the luxury of growing up with people that taught me that everything is God’s and we are just to be stewards or shepherds of it. As a therapist and wellness specialist I have seen the powerful connection between healing, recovery from anything, and time spent outdoors. The ability to heal is all around us. Just breathe and take it in.
