These 1973 photos capture Story County Hospital’s ambulance service during an open house showcasing the vehicle, equipment, and training behind the community’s growing emergency response system.

At the time, the ambulance could transport up to four patients and carried equipment designed to better stabilize injuries during transport, a major advancement for rural emergency care.

The hospital’s investment in Emergency Medical Technician training beginning with its first ambulance in 1970, helped lay the groundwork for the modern EMS services our community relies on today.

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication will never be forgotten, and we are grateful for the freedoms they helped protect.

In 1973, Story County Hospital was named the beneficiary of a remarkable estate gift from Nevada resident Edith Robison — a bequest valued at nearly $400,000.
