When ADHD overwhelm builds up, even small things can start to feel mentally and emotionally exhausting.

Sometimes the nervous system has been running on overdrive for so long that slowing down feels unfamiliar too.

This is your reminder to pause for a moment. Take a breath. Let your body catch up with your mind.

Grounding exercises won’t solve everything, but they can help create a little more space when your thoughts feel loud and everything feels like “too much.”

If you’ve been feeling constantly overwhelmed, overstimulated, emotionally drained, or like you’re always trying to catch up, support is available.

For many adults with ADHD, slowing down doesn’t always feel easy.

Even rest can come with constant input - scrolling, background noise, multitasking, racing thoughts, or mentally running through everything that still needs to get done.

Sometimes the mind has been in motion for so long that true rest starts to feel unfamiliar.

If you’ve been feeling mentally exhausted, overwhelmed, or like your brain never fully powers down, there may be more underneath that experience than you realize.

You deserve support that helps you understand your mind with more compassion, not more pressure. Get matched with the right therapist for you through the link in our bio.

Sometimes exhaustion comes from doing a lot physically.

Sometimes it comes from constantly processing.

Messages.
Notifications.
Conversations.
News.
Content.
Noise.
Expectations.
The pressure to always be reachable, informed, responsive, and “on.”

Even our downtime often comes with more input.

It makes sense that so many people feel mentally overloaded right now.

Sometimes therapy becomes one of the few places where you can slow down enough to hear your own thoughts again.

We're so excited to have recently welcomed Leslie Rostek, LCSWA to the Renewed Wellness Counseling team. Leslie specializes in ADHD, anxiety, life transitions, executive functioning, and more. She's now accepting new clients and would love to connect.

5 Signs It Might Be Time to Seek Help for Anxiety & Stress
1. You feel “on edge” most of the time
Not just during stressful moments, but regularly. Your mind feels busy, your body feels tense, and it’s hard to fully relax, even during downtime.

2.Your body is starting to carry the stress
Frequent headaches, trouble sleeping, stomach issues, jaw clenching, fatigue, racing heart, or feeling constantly overstimulated can all be signs that stress is impacting more than just your thoughts.

3. You’re functioning, but barely
A lot of people experiencing anxiety still go to work, take care of others, and keep everything moving. But internally, it may feel exhausting just to get through the day.

4. You’ve started withdrawing or avoiding things
You may notice yourself canceling plans, procrastinating, avoiding conversations, or feeling overwhelmed by things that used to feel manageable.

5. Your coping tools aren’t working like they used to
Maybe you’ve tried pushing through, staying busy, distracting yourself, or “waiting for things to calm down,” but it still feels heavy or hard to manage alone.

Seeking support does not mean things have to be falling apart first. Sometimes therapy simply gives you space to understand what’s going on beneath the surface and learn healthier ways to manage it.

At Renewed Wellness Counseling, we take a whole-person approach to mental health care and work to help clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and understood.

After periods of stress, some people notice that mental activity continues beyond the situation itself.

This can show up as:
• Thoughts continuing later into the evening
• Replaying interactions or conversations
• Difficulty focusing without distraction
• Increased awareness of thoughts during quieter moments
• Physical tension in areas such as the shoulders, jaw, or chest

These responses can reflect how the brain and body continue processing after stress has occurred.
