Lifespan vs. Healthspan - What’s the Difference?
Lifespan is how long you live. Healthspan is how long you live well. Many people live into old age, but not everyone gets to enjoy those extra years. Joint pain, stiffness, injuries, and poor movement can rob you of the things you love.
The goal isn’t just to add years to your life. It’s to add life to your years! That’s where I come in.
Invest in your HEALTHSPAN today. DM me to book a session! 💪🏽

NEUROPLASTICITY: HERE'S WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT IS IT.
Also known as “brain plasticity”, in a simple way, it is the ability of the brain to change through growth and reorganization. New neural networks are formed and / or reorganized. These new synaptic connections are in response to learning and experience or following an injury and it can be enhanced by specific physical therapy interventions that we provide on a regular basis. The brain is rewired to function in some way that differs from how it previously functioned and a given task or activity that wasn’t able to be completed can be successfully performed over the time.
This is exactly what you need to help you to overcome and resolve chronic pain, feelings of joint instability (chronic) and even apprehension with movement. The Fear Avoidance Beliefs questionnaires are the best standard of measurement in a lot of occasions (including for low back pain!) and they are highly correlated with injuries (at any age! - this would require even another post!). Neuroplasticity offers real hope to everyone from stroke victims to dyslexics.
This is an analogy that I like to tell my patients: chronic pain is like a bad relationship… It is very hard to forget one, right? Why would it be different? It is the same body, the same “neuro bundle associations”...
What you NEED is the CONSISTENCY of positive experience with movement to overcome pain and fear!
A FEW SCIENTIFIC FACTS ABOUT IT AND HOW WE CAN HELP YOU WITH OUR INTERVENTION:
1) Intensity activity maximizes synaptic plasticity;
2) Complexity activities promote greater structural adaptation;
3) Activities that are rewarding increase dopamine levels and therefore promote learning/relearning;
4) Dopaminergic neurons are highly responsive to exercise and inactivity (“use it or lose it”);
5) If exercise is introduced at an early stage of the disease, progression may be slowed.
