So, I’ve finally decided to join the ‘everyone has a podcast’ club—cause why not!🎙️ My new podcast, Roses and Rituals, is launching this Thursday, August 29th, and I couldn’t be more excited (and maybe a little nervous) to share it with you all.

In a world where there’s a podcast for just about everything, I wanted to create a space that feels like a cozy chat with a friend, diving into the magic and mystery of Reiki and beyond. Episode one is all about the basics of Reiki—what it is, how it works, and why it might just be the thing you didn’t know you needed. Whether you’re a total newbie or just curious, I’m here to break it all down in the most down-to-earth way possible.

So grab your favorite cup of tea, find a comfy spot, and tune in this Thursday🎙️✨

Wild Orangutan Uses Herbal Medicine to Treat His Wound 😮

Researchers say this may be the first observation of a nonhuman animal purposefully treating a wound with a medicinal plant!

In June 2022 researchers monitoring the 150 orangutans in the neighborhood noticed something unusual: Rakus was injured, with an open wound on his fl**ge (a large, flat “cheek” structure that surrounds his face). And he seemed to be purposefully applying plant sap and crushed leaves to the wound—almost like a poultice—according to research describing the behavior, which was published on May 2 in Scientific Reports.

“This is a fascinating example of intentional wound treatment in wild orangutans,” says Cheryl Knott, a biological anthropologist at Boston University, who was not involved in the new study. “We’ve never seen anything like this.”

We are perfect & flawed all at once
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Denying this fact is denying the experience of being fully alive. And although we know this truth and we've heard time and time again that we're perfectly imperfect, we tend to be fiercely self-critical.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Instead of ignoring this inner critic, we should teach it to be more supportive. When negative thoughts creep in, we have to choose to think differently. When you notice negative thought patterns, instead try to find what your real needs are🕊️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Understand that you are worthy beyond measure. Growth takes consistency. Retraining your mental habits takes consistency and an infinite amount of kindness and self-compassion.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mudras are symbolic gestures often practiced with the hands and fingers that facilitate the flow of energy in the subtle body. This mudra directs energy from your root to the crown chakra and helps you to dissolve any blocks or thought patterns that may be dimming your light.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kali is the Goddess of Time, Change, Transformation, Creation, Power, Destruction and Death. She shows up in your life when it's time to transform into a more honest version of yourself 💕

About Rose & Ritual

Rose & Ritual Apothecary was inspired by two life changes. The first was when Kaitlyn made a bold decision to cut off all her hair and honor her natural visage. At which point, she became frustrated by the lack of organic ingredients in commercial beauty products. The second was a change in spiritual practice. She began meditating more, and unlearning secular biases.

Wanting to incorporate rituals of self-care into her daily practice, she set out to learn about how the earth and The Divine could not only cultivate a positive mindset but a healthy, whole, nourished body as well.

She hopes Rose & Ritual will better serve people of color, fight stereotypes, and cultivate a culture of learning under the belief that the Almighty Divine has created an herb or flower that can treat any ailment of the body and mind. The Rose & Ritual brand emulates the natural elements (sandalwood, rose quartz, roses and sage) from which Rose & Ritual is continually inspired. The brand aims to visually educate, welcome and cultivate community.
