Lincolnway Special Recreation Association LWSRA provides recreation for individuals with disabilities in its eight-member park districts. Please note that this page is not monitored 24 hours a day.

Since 1976, LWSRA has provided recreation services for children and adults with disabilities through a cooperative agreement with Frankfort, Frankfort Square, Manhattan, Mokena, New Lenox, Peotone and Wilmington Park Districts. LWSRA supports residents residing in our member districts by offering more than 200 programs annually and through inclusion services. Comment and Posting Reminder:

❄️ Due to forecasted cold conditions, the LWSRA office will be closed on Friday, January 23. All programs and events scheduled for Friday have been cancelled including:

Club Hawk After School Care
Tumbling Basics
Junior Hawks Social Club (Winter Wonderland)
Bingo Blast

Saturday programs and events will run as scheduled.

🎉 Our first two weeks back at Titans for 2026 is in the books! 🎉

Participants spent time at our partner district, Crete Park District , during our Midweek Mix and Friday Flex program, enjoyed weight training in the gym, cooking, seasonal crafts, book club, Lab Rats (science experiments), games, fitness activities, and more. Healthy Heroes is a free wellness program for veterans with disabilities living in LWSRA member communities. 💪

Participants receive a free year-long membership to the Oaks Recreation & Fitness Center, plus one-on-one support to explore activities they’ll truly enjoy—at their own pace.

The program focuses on physical wellness, social connection, and overall quality of life in a welcoming, low-pressure environment.

We’re excited to introduce some new faces who have recently joined our LWSRA team!

🔧 Facilities Manager – Andrew Farkas
Andrew previously worked for Frankfort Square and Frankfort Park Districts. In his spare time, Andrew enjoys playing hockey with his kids and he's excited to be part of our team now!

🌟 Intern – Jamar Newell
Jamar is currently a senior at Grambling State University and is entering his last semester. He is interning with us to become a CTRS. He is very excited and grateful for this opportunity and get wait to get more involved with our programs!

🌟 Intern – Sandy Garcia
Sandy is currently a senior at the University of St. Francis and is interning with us to become a CTRS. She is very excited to be here and can't wait to jump into all of the programs LWSRA has to offer!

What an exciting start to the new year for LWSRA Wheelchair Basketball!

👏 Huge congratulations to our LWSRA Prep Team for taking 1st place at the Big Peach Tournament in Cartersville, Georgia over New Year’s weekend!

⭐ Shoutout to Liel Goldman, who earned All-Tournament honors in the Prep Division, and Cameron Davis for making the Varsity All-Tournament Team!

💪 Congratulations as well to Ellen Trainor for receiving the Triumph Fair Play Award for Perseverance — a well-deserved recognition of her determination and sportsmanship.

🎉🏀Huge Congratulations!🏀🎉

Six of our Hawks/Synergy Wheelchair Basketball athletes have made the High Performance Pool—the first cut for the 2026 U.S. Wheelchair Basketball National Team for men and women! After an epic Try-Out Camp (Jan. 3–7, Colorado Springs), these athletes will return April 22–27 for Selection Camp, where 12 will earn their spot on Team USA.

💥 Huge shoutout to all current and former players and staff recognized in this initial Team USA selection—We are so proud of this incredible achievement!

About LWSRA

Since 1976, the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association (LWSRA) has provided adaptive

and special recreation services for individuals with disabilities through a cooperative agreement with Frankfort, Frankfort Square, Manhattan, Mokena, New Lenox, Peotone and Wilmington Island park districts. LWSRA is an integral part of the overall recreation services of each of our partners. LWSRA programs are for individuals from preschool through adult who have recreation needs that are not met by regular park district programs. Also available for residents of the above park districts: Door-to-door service for some programs and inclusion aides for those, after an evaluation, deemed appropriate to participate in regular park district programs with an aide. Participants of LWSRA programs and events not only have fun, but make friends, increase physical activity, enjoy new experiences, and refine social and life skills.
