We are so excited to congratulate one of our very own, Coach Thomas Duffy, on being named the 2026 Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, Wheelchair Coach of the Year! 🎉🏀This honor reflects his passion, leadership, and dedication to our athletes and program.

Coach Duffy’s journey with the Hawks started when he was just 9 years old. After going on to play at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, he returned to give back—starting as an assistant coach and becoming head coach just one year later.

Under his leadership, the Hawks captured an Illinois State Championship and finished in the top 10 at the national tournament in West Monroe, Louisiana.

These are just a few of his accomplishments—Coach Duffy continues to make an incredible impact both on and off the court every day. We’re proud to have him leading the way at LWSRA!

LWSRA brought the fiesta to life on Friday, April 10th at our annual Co-Op Fiesta Dance! 🎉 We were thrilled to welcome participants from several surrounding SRAs for a night full of energy, connection, and celebration.

Guests enjoyed a delicious spread of chicken and beef tacos, Spanish rice, chips and salsa, fiesta fruit punch, and sweet treats to top it all off. DJ Tom kept the dance floor packed all night long, spinning music that had everyone moving and smiling.

It was an unforgettable evening filled with great food, great music, and even better company! 💃🕺

🎥 Check it out!

Fox 32 Chicago stopped by this morning to highlight our PE Takeovers with Will County School District 92, showcasing the impact of inclusive recreation and the power of bringing our programs directly into schools.

We love being able to partner with schools to spread awareness of disabilities during their PE classes while creating fun, meaningful experiences for all students.

Take a look at the segment to see it all in action!

Students in Homer Glen are gearing up for a high-energy event that raises awareness and funds through a community wheelchair basketball game.

About LWSRA

Since 1976, the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association (LWSRA) has provided adaptive

and special recreation services for individuals with disabilities through a cooperative agreement with Frankfort, Frankfort Square, Manhattan, Mokena, New Lenox, Peotone and Wilmington Island park districts. LWSRA is an integral part of the overall recreation services of each of our partners. LWSRA programs are for individuals from preschool through adult who have recreation needs that are not met by regular park district programs. Also available for residents of the above park districts: Door-to-door service for some programs and inclusion aides for those, after an evaluation, deemed appropriate to participate in regular park district programs with an aide. Participants of LWSRA programs and events not only have fun, but make friends, increase physical activity, enjoy new experiences, and refine social and life skills.
