As April comes to a close, we wrap up Stress Awareness Month and Alcohol Awareness Month with one simple reminder: Awareness is where change begins.

This month, we’ve talked about how stress can show up in our daily lives and how coping choices—like alcohol use—can impact our overall well-being. These conversations aren’t always easy, but they are important.

Taking a moment to recognize your patterns, check in with yourself, and make small, intentional changes can have a lasting impact on your mental health.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, or if your relationship with stress or alcohol feels difficult to manage, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital offers free, confidential assessments and support through inpatient and outpatient programs for adolescents and adults—because everyone deserves access to care and support.

Last week, we had the pleasure of celebrating Health Information Professionals Week, and today we’re still feeling grateful for the incredible team at Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital who keep everything running seamlessly behind the scenes.

Our Health Information professionals play a vital role in protecting patient privacy, ensuring accuracy, and supporting quality care every single day. Their attention to detail, dedication, and commitment often go unseen, but their impact is felt across every department and every patient experience.

At Silver Oaks, excellence starts with strong foundations, and our HIM team is a big part of that. Thank you for all that you do. We appreciate you not just last week, but all year long!

As we head into the weekend—and continue recognizing Stress Awareness Month and Alcohol Awareness Month—it’s a good time to check in with yourself.

After a long week, many of us look for ways to unwind, and for some, that can include alcohol. While it may feel like a quick way to relax, it’s important to recognize how stress and alcohol can become connected over time. Using alcohol to cope with stress can sometimes leave us feeling more drained, impact our sleep, and make it harder to fully recharge for the week ahead.

This weekend, consider what truly helps you reset:
• Getting outside for fresh air
• Spending time with supportive people
• Prioritizing rest and sleep
• Choosing activities that help you feel recharged

Awareness is the first step, and small changes can make a meaningful difference.

If stress or alcohol use has been difficult to manage, support is available. Silver Oaks offers free, confidential assessments and services including inpatient and outpatient programs for adolescents and adults.

Take care of yourself this weekend. 💚

🌟 March Employee of the Month 🌟

Please join us in celebrating Eretha H., our AM Receptionist, as our Employee of the Month at Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital!

In just a short time, Eretha has made a lasting impact on our entire organization. As the first face and voice our staff and patients encounter each day, she sets the tone with her warmth, kindness, and calm presence. Whether it’s someone’s first visit or their hundredth, Eretha ensures everyone feels welcomed and at ease.

Her supervisor shared, “She brings a sense of peace and steadiness to the front desk that does not go unnoticed. Even in urgent moments, she remains composed, reassuring, and steady.”

From greeting every person with a smile to calmly announcing overhead codes, Eretha creates an environment where both staff and patients feel supported.

Eretha, thank you for the care, professionalism, and positive energy you bring each day. We are so grateful to have you on our team! 💚

This week we had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Annual Wellness Resource Fair at Joliet Junior College, hosted by the Center for Student Wellness and Support. It was a wonderful event and an incredible opportunity to connect with students, faculty, and members of the surrounding community. Conversations like these matter, because access to behavioral health resources starts with awareness, education, and trust. We’re proud to stand alongside organizations that are committed to supporting mental wellness and creating safe spaces for individuals to seek help, ask questions, and learn about available resources. Thank you to Joliet Junior College for hosting such a meaningful event and for prioritizing student wellness. At Silver Oaks, we remain committed to strengthening community partnerships and expanding access to care because mental health matters, and no one should navigate it alone.

Patient Access Week is here, and it’s a powerful reminder that access is where care truly begins.

At Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital, we’ve taken that concept a step further through our Behavioral Health Concierge Program a model designed to remove barriers and create a seamless entry point into care. Behind every admission, assessment, and referral is a coordinated effort to ensure patients are connected to the right level of care, at the right time, without delay.
⭐ Direct access pathways for providers, hospitals, and community partners
⭐ Streamlined assessment coordination for inpatient and outpatient services
⭐ Real-time collaboration with referral sources to reduce delays in care
⭐ Closed-loop communication to ensure continuity across the care journey

This program functions as a single point of access, supporting not just patients and families, but also physicians, social workers, and community organizations who need a reliable, responsive partner. We’re proud to continue redefining access in behavioral health, making it more efficient, more connected, and more patient-centered.

Alcohol use exists on a spectrum, and it’s not always easy to recognize when it becomes a concern.

Alcohol misuse doesn’t always mean dependence.

It can look like:
• Drinking to cope with stress or emotions
• Difficulty cutting back
• Drinking more or more often than intended
• Alcohol impacting relationships, work, or health

These patterns can develop gradually and often go unnoticed.

This Alcohol Awareness Month, we’re creating space for honest conversations, increased understanding, and support without judgment.

If you or someone you know may be struggling, we offer free, confidential assessments and a range of services. Connect with us today.

Stress is a natural response to life’s demands—but not all stress is the same.

Short-term stress can help us stay focused and alert. However, ongoing or chronic stress can begin to affect our mood, sleep, relationships, and overall health.

You might notice stress showing up as:
• Feeling constantly overwhelmed
• Difficulty sleeping
• Irritability or mood changes
• Trouble concentratingRecognizing stress is the first step toward managing it.

Recognizing stress is the first step toward managing it.

At Silver Oaks, we understand how overwhelming stress can feel. If you or a loved one may need support, we offer free, confidential assessments to help determine the right level of care.
