Wolfdog play can look intense to say the least.
All the snarling, flashing teeth, and deep growls can feel a little alarming if you’re not used to it. And honestly, I get why. It looks like a fight!!
But this is actually normal, healthy communication for wolfdogs.
They’re just way more expressive and physical than your average domestic dog. They use their voices, their faces, and their bodies in a much bigger, more dramatic way.
If you listen closely, you’ll even hear little sneezes in there, that’s one of their ways of saying ‘hey, I’m just playing.’ It helps keep things light and makes sure both dogs are on the same page.
What you’re seeing here is mutual, balanced, and intentional. They’re taking turns, respecting each other’s space, and staying engaged without things escalating.
It’s not aggression, it’s just a different (and very dramatic) communication style.
Once you know what to look and listen for, it starts to feel a lot less scary and a lot more fascinating.
Education over assumption. Always.
