🇺🇲 Happy 4th of July 🇺🇲
🇺🇸 On this Independence Day, we reflect not only on the promise of freedom, but on the courage it takes to demand it — entirely, equally, and without exception.
Throughout her life, Dr. Maya Angelou celebrated the beauty of this country while also holding it accountable. She wrote, spoke, and marched for the liberation of all people, never wavering in her belief that freedom must be just, inclusive, and shared.
In her poem “A Brave and Startling Truth”, Dr. Angelou reminds us of our collective power and potential:
When we come to it
We, this people, on this wayward, floating body
Created on this earth, of this earth
Have the power to fashion for this earth
A climate where every man and every woman
Can live freely without sanctimonious piety
Without crippling fear
When we come to it
We must confess that we are the possible
We are the miraculous, the true wonder of this world
That is when, and only when
We come to it.
🕊️ Today, we honor Dr. Angelou’s legacy by continuing the work:
🔹 Speak truth.
🔹 Fight injustice.
🔹 Live boldly.
Because true independence means none of us is free until all of us are.
