Villalobos Special Needs

Villalobos Special Needs This page has been created to highlight the special needs dogs of Villalobos Rescue Center.

Some people like to adopt a brand, new, shiny, perfect dog, that's got all four legs, is perfectly house trained, loves every human and animal it meets, speaks four languages and doesn't shed....and we LOVE those adopters....however we certainly have an extra special place in our hearts for those of you who are like us....wanting the 'problem children'....the dogs who are a bit 'rough around the edges'.....maybe they have chronic allergies...maybe they are terrified of the world...maybe they need someone to keep up the work we've been doing with them so they don't rage every time they see a dog...

This page is for those dogs who don't check all the boxes, they are the beautiful, sometimes complicated dogs that get looked over, because they just don't fit the mold...some of them were born that way and some have encountered such horrific abuse by our fellow humans that they will never be the same. Our hope is that this page will help us connect with people who are would love to open their homes and their hearts to our dogs who require extra patience. Some of our special needs dogs have physical limitations*, others require a certain level of sensitivity**, as the world can be a scary place for them. We are very excited to share these dogs with you!
* For the dogs with physical issues we take care of all medical that we can before they leave
**For the dogs with emotional issues we will provide a Victoria Stilwell certified local trainer to help with the transition. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING ONE OF THESE DOGS PLEASE FILL OUT AN APPLICATION AT WWW.VRCPITBULL.COM

MEET SUSIE...

You may have watched her story on one of the episodes. It was one that broke our hearts. Her sweet owner was forced to surrender her by his property manager after she was in a minor scuffle with another dog. Susie did not start the argument, she was only defending herself and nobody was injured. It was a difficult thing for us to do, especially because her owner loved her dearly. He was completely heartbroken. We promised to take great care of her and find her an amazing home. We have kept that promise by loving her and providing her with the best care. However, the second part of that promise depends on someone special who wants to welcome Susie into their home, and give her the simple life she so badly wants and deserves. She is calm, loving, and gentle, and as sweet as they come. She is BEST FRIEND material!! She enjoys walks, but she mostly enjoys snoozing on a couch. One of our employees calls her "snoozy susie" :) She is great in the home, as she is currently being fostered by one of our employees (pictured with him below). She can be a bit shy and needs someone who can provide her with a quiet life. She is uncomfortable around dogs, understandably so, so she has to be your one and only. Help us fulfill our promise, and fill out an application for Susie at vrcpitbull.com.

UPTOWN GIRL: Special Medical Needs.

Our Uptown girl is fairly new to the rescue. We got a call from one of our employees that a pit bull was having seizures outside of our French Quarter shoppe. We of course rushed to help. She was just coming out of a seizure when we arrived and the first thing she did was kiss our faces. The good samaritan who brought her had left before we showed up. He told our employee he found her wandering around an Uptown neighborhood and she kept having seizures and he couldn’t afford to help. We took her straight to our vet where she was put on medication to manage her epilepsy.

She’s adjusted well and is doing much better! And as far as her personality goes…well, she is a total doll. She is calm, easy on leash, and just wants a human friend to hang out with. We think she lived in a home before. She knows sit and down, two things we didn’t teach her, and she gets excited when invited up on the couch. Who wants to fall in love with this Uptown girl?! We know we already have.

I know my family is not the only one that was affected by Harvey nor the only one that needs help. My family and I had to make quick decisions to try and make sure we have most things for our kids and dog food for our other child. SPECIAL NEEDS DOG OF THE DAY:
COUNTRY GIRL

This spunky gal has got to have one of the most dramatic stories we’ve ever encountered. It all started in the back woods of Louisiana. I was playing with my dogs in my yard “out in the swamp” and a truckload of good ole country boys pulled over. They heard that I was the one with the Pit Bull rescue and needed some help. They had rescued a female Pit Bull from some not so nice guys. In their attempt to save her, they realized the only place to put her was in the back of their truck but they tied her in thinking that she would be safe until they got her home. Yes I probably would’ve done things different but I’m not going to fault these guys for trying. As they were driving home, the dog jumped out of the truck and was run over by their very own truck. She injured two of her legs, one of them pretty badly. They rushed her to the vet and after hearing how much money it would cost to fix the broken bones, etc, they didn’t have that kind of money. So they found me and we drove down some backwoods road to get her. Indeed she was pretty injured but despite the pain she must’ve been in, true to a typical Pit Bull, she was in great spirits. So we took her to the vet where she received all of her medical treatment. After watching her hobble around with her cast and her little butt wiggle non-stop, I named her “Country Girl” after the Luke Bryan song. Country Girl is an absolute goofball. Nothing upsets her, nothing stops her from having fun. If you’re looking for a well behaved house companion but also someone who will make you laugh and keep you entertained, then Country Girl is that gal.

SPECIAL NEEDS DOG OF THE DAY: Regina George

Look at that sweet face! Regina is about 3 years old, and is the perfect size around 35-40lbs! She prefers to be the only dog in the home. She is the type to crawl right into your lap and is so ready to give a family endless amounts of love. What makes this girl shine most is her love for kids. And what makes her just a bit more special is that she can be a bit shy. If you are interested in Regina please fill out an application at vrcpitbull.com

SPECIAL NEEDS DOG OF THE DAY: AURORA

Check out this beauty!
This sweet husky mix was given up to us with a litter of brand new pups…the pups have since been placed but now she needs her own home. She is VERY shy at first, so she needs a quiet house preferably with another dog for confidence. The fencing for her will have to be at least 6 feet & very secure. It doesn’t take much for her to warm up and when she does, all she want to do is crawl into your lap and get pet.

Prior shy dog experience a must.

SPECIAL NEEDS DOG OF THE DAY: ANTHONY

Seized during a dog fighting raid, this cute as a bug, little blue boy, came to us from Long Island, New York along with several other of his little buddies. Despite Anthony aka Tony’s abusive past, he is still a very sweet and well behaved little dude. But he is a little shy and reserved and will require a home with someone that will pamper him and let him live a quiet lifestyle. I can’t say enough how adorable he is and if I didn’t have dogs of my own that are jerks, this little dollface would be living with me! Anthony’s kindness and forgiving nature for the humans that wronged him is heartfelt and he would be so grateful to be able to finally show that to a new human companion. Yes we know he’s a looker but we are going to be strict about sticking to what we feel is best for him. A patient and quiet home that will allow him to snuggle in your bed each and every night. He behaves very well in public around dogs but does not want to live with another dog. As for kids, he will be fine with them but because he can be a little shy, the kids would have to be patient and understanding with him. He’s just that sweet of a pooch.

We will be updating our special needs page over the next couple of days! Stay tuned!

Zak-the most handsome tripod you ever did see. He is a true badass, but sweet as pie-the perfect combination. He's aging and starting to become a bit arthritic, but that hasn't broken his spirit. He is still excited for a walk as soon he sees the leash, but he is so down to just chill out with his human friends. He is still available for adoption through vrcpitbull.com.

Remember Mr. Snuffles? WE HAVE AMAZING NEWS! Somehow, this little guy has recovered from his severe heart and lung damage! Mr. Snuffles is still considered a special needs dog, as he can be pretty shy when he meets someone new. However, he becomes more confident when he has a dog friend to play with. He would either need to be adopted out with a friend from VRC, or go to a home with an existing dog friendly dog. If you are interested in Mr. Snuffles please fill out at application at www.vrcpitbull.com
