I've had a few people ask me recently what traditional Witchcraft is and how the traditional Witch practices their Craft.
Traditional Witchcraft is a practice that embraces pre-Gardenerian ideas. It bases itself in the folklore of Europe and the UK. In this particular tradition, there are no the creeds, redes, laws or ideas that are present in more modern witchcraft. This is not to say that we who practice the traditional Craft have no laws, it is more about personal responsibility and holding to your own standard of conduct and sense of morality. Through old writings, folklore tales, history and ancient pagan practices, traditional witchcraft was born. Traditional Witches take from these areas and incorporate them into our own personal paths. Traditional Witches will curse and hex, we will work with darker energies as well as light, we are not afraid to work with baneful herbs and are often not hung up on ritual or ceremony, preferring to approach our workings with intuition and feeling.
Traditional Witchcraft also embraces the idea of ancestor worship, whether this is the witchโs personal ancestors or broader, geographical ancestor worship. Those who practice traditional Witchcraft will not separate the magical from the mundane, our Craft is our life because it is a part of our daily life, and there is no separation of ideas. Traditional Witchcraft is an adaptive practice because within its core, a person wishing to practice traditional Witchcraft can adapt our own countryโs history and lore into our practice too.
