Happy New Year! On the 7th day of Kwanzaa, we honor the principle Imani (Faith) by renewing our commitment to our core values: delivering extraordinary care with courtesy, concern, kindness, and compassion. It is the faith and trust our community places in us that fuels our mission every single day. We look forward to a healthier 2026 and continued growth for our New Orleans East community!

On this day of remembrance, we pause to honor the fourteen lives taken one year ago. They remain forever in our hearts, and we hold their families, loved ones, and all who survived this tragedy in our thoughts and prayers. May comfort, strength, and healing surround them. We also express our profound appreciation to the first responders and healthcare professionals whose courage and compassion rose to the moment, delivering critical, life-saving care amid unimaginable circumstances.

On the 6th day of Kwanzaa, we honor the principle Kuumba as the creative act of leaving our community more beautiful and beneficial. As we marked the 20th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina this year, we honored the resilient spirit that transformed the former site of Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital into New Orleans East Hospital. This transition, almost a decade in the making, was the ultimate act of creative determination—carrying the torch of care forward for our community. We continue to build on this legacy of strength and new beginnings every day. The 20th Anniversary was commemorated by a painting created by local artist .

On the 5th day of Kwanzaa, we honor the principle Nia. Our purpose is defined by our commitment to serving as a community hospital. The New Orleans East community fought for a full-service hospital, and we honor that legacy every day through deep community outreach. Our purpose is to meet the community where they are—which is why, this year alone, our team attended 80 community events providing essential health screenings, education, and referrals. We proudly provide well-care in addition to sick-care because your health is our mission.

On the 4th day of Kwanzaa, we celebrate the principle of Ujamaa. We are proud to practice Ujamaa by building strong community economic ties! This year, New Orleans East Hospital was delighted to host several Farmers Markets, bringing local vendors and fresh, healthy produce right to our neighbors. This initiative supports local entrepreneurship and ensures our community has access to nutritious food—a true partnership for health and prosperity in New Orleans East!

On the 3rd day of Kwanzaa, we celebrate the principle of Ujima. This principle calls us to build and maintain our community together. This year, we lived this principle through our powerful partnership with the faith-based community of New Orleans East! Our collective work kicked off with the November Health Summit, where we convened parishioners from seven local churches to empower our neighbors with health education and resources. We are stronger together in faith and in health!

On the 2nd day of Kwanzaa, we celebrate the principle of Kujichagulia, which means defining and naming ourselves. This year, our actions spoke volumes! NOEH determined its own high standard of care by achieving major Quality Awards, including the prestigious Hospital of the Year honor and a top Leapfrog Grade A in the Fall Safety Grades. These accomplishments are a direct result of our self-determined mission to pursue excellence and provide the highest-quality, patient-centered care for every person who comes through our doors.

Wishing you a safe and happy Kwanzaa to all of those who celebrate!
