Many religious traditions — especially those rooted in purity culture — have helped shape the “Madonna–wh*re” complex: the idea that women (and by extension, anyone seen as feminine) can only exist in one of two boxes:
😇 The Madonna → pure, modest, nurturing, deserving of respect.
😈 The Wh*re → sexual, desiring, indulgent, deserving of judgment or use.

This binary creates an impossible double standard. The “ideal partner” is supposed to embody saintly purity, but desire is projected onto the “forbidden other.”
