COPIED & PASTED from an LMT group. You MUST inform me of any and all topical medications you are taking and where you apply them for my own safety.
Hi everyone. I hope everyone is doing well. I just wanted to post a reminder to everyone about topical gels that are used for hormone replacement therapy.
This week I went to the doctor to have annual blood work done, and because I have been feeling a little bit off lately, I had the doctor tack on a few additional tests including one that checks your free testosterone on the off chance that mine might be low.
Well when the results of everything came back, it was no wonder why I was feeling crappy. Results were all over the place. My doctor was initially so confused about what was going on because none of it made sense. Among the other chaotic results, the shocker was that my testosterone was in fact high, not low.
I won't bore you with all of the details, but after ruling out medical reasons why my testosterone would be high, and verifying that I wasn't doing TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) myself, my doctor told me I had probably come into contact with someone doing TRT.
I went back and looked through all of the intake forms on all of my active clients, and none of them had it listed, so I then started talking to them individually as they came in for their appointments. I finally figured out that it was someone that I see several times a month.
Its common for men doing TRT to use a topical gel as its the cheapest way to supplement your testosterone. There are also patches and shots, but most men will start with the gel. One of the most common areas for it to be applied are the upper arms and shoulders, and if you come into contact with it, you just got a dose of testosterone. We should be staying several inches away from the border of any application area.
So just know, if you start feeling like you aren't yourself, add that to the list of things to be checked, and maybe even add it to a list of specific questions on your intake forms for review with each client. Hope this helps. Have a great day.
