Occupational therapy addresses how the brain processes information which helps overall with a persons accuracy, safety and decision-making when it comes to activities of daily living.

Occupational therapist look at the functions of daily living (dressing, bathing, toileting, home management, transitions, fine motor skills, such as opening packages and manipulating buttons and zippers, medicine management, fall prevention, and safety, as well as developmental skills, such as posture and safety) and problem solve how to compensate, remediate or strengthen areas so that a person is able to be as independent in their daily life as possible.

Today was a great day of the practical application of occupational therapy. We’ve been working on handwriting for sometime and found just the right modifications on paper to compensate for visual deficits. He wanted to make brownies. We wrote the recipe and learned how to cook today! The Office today smells like a bakery. ❤️

Practical application of skills, such as vision, hand strength and mobility, executive functioning skills to follow directions and more are what OT‘s address. The result of intervention in this case is good handwriting for school, improved vision, improved hand strength, and learning a practical skill like cooking. 

Bonus, we got to eat brownies!
