My daughters are packing in our backpacks.

The backpack that accompanied my husband through 5 years of yeshiva and the backpack that came with me on every single visit here. The backpack that takes me back to Summer 2016….

So when parents tell me their children eat better when they are in front of a screen, I tell them they are right, but is the price worth it?

Do your kids eat while watching? Are they dependent on a screw ? Do they ask for it? How do they do without it?

Would you want to wean off the screen?

The answer is yes and no!

What has your experience been?

What other factors do you see influencing your child’s eating habits?

Research indicates that children of selective eaters have higher risks of being selective eaters because:

* parents may bring less variety into the home
* parents may have less structure around food options
* parents model eating less variety

So if you are a picky eater but you:

* bring variety into the home
* structure mealtimes so your children have exposure to new foods
* model willingness to try/ flexibility/ interest in new foods

Your kids have every possibility to be great food explorers!

If you’re looking for support with food/ mealtimes for yourself or your children, let’s schedule a free 15 minute consultation and I’ll share how I can help

Before bed snack!

You want the kids to go to bed. They want to stay up.

They haven’t eaten anything nutritious all day!

Suddenly they are starving.

This is your opportunity.

Offer something quick, easy and with some nutrition.

You initiate it. You choose what to serve. You include at least one currently preferred food. You be consistent.

That’s how it works best. And any progress is also good!

Have you tried this? Would you try? Let me know how it goes.

I feel like I talk about this so much.

But then even I forget about it!

So I figure you must also forget about the wonders of bedtime snack 🍪 🍉

Bedtime snack is great for:

Delaying bedtime with permission
Topping kids off before bed in case they are really hungry
A few extra minutes if connection with parents
An opportunity to introduce new foods
An opportunity to try more nutritious foods that are not yet highly preferred

Bedtime snacks works when:
The parent initiates it
It is consistent
It is structured
It is a shared sit down small meal
It is not dependent on what the child did or did not eat previously

Which point speaks to you? What’s your why for adding bedtime snack into your routine? Do you have questions, concerns or want elaboration?

Put your comment in the comments and we’ll delve into this.

But…. It doesn’t have to be miserable.

And the key is for parents to prepare/ present food that IS available.

There will be endless statements of dire hunger and there’s nothing to eat and requests for alternatives.

So here’s where you focus on what is in your control.

Telling/showing your children what is available and reminding them they can choose from these options. Having food ready will make it easier for children to choose and to eat.

Today we tried pesach pancakes. I googled a recipe and tweaked it. The kids didn’t love it but they all ate some.

1 cup almond flour
1/2 cup potato starch
1tsp baking soda or powder
1/4-1/2 cup sugar
1egg
3/4cup yogurt
Tbsp oil
Sprinkle salt
Lots of chocolate chunks

Fried in butter

Batter will take a few min. to crisp so keep on small to medium flame and watch for bubbles and flip.

Let me know if you try it and how it comes out

This is the number one question I get from people inside and outside of Israel.

And my answer is no.

Because I fully and truly believe that Hashem watches over us. That every day in this land is a miracle. That this land is a gift.

Am I ever worried? Do I experience concerning moments? For sure.

But that is part of being part of the Jewish people.

Here, there, everywhere.

The north. The south. The center.

South Africa, Los Angeles, Europe. Crown Heights.

And our answer to the hatred is to be louder. Prouder. Stronger.

And that’s the vibe here in the biblical heartland. In the land of our ancestors and holiest places. The land our enemies want most badly to take from us.

Also, we’re all armed 🔫 💥

We had a very interesting shabbos doing a farm takeover. Head over to stories for more….

Been working at breakfast options that are more balanced while being easy to take on the go.

It’s not fresh eggs every morning but it’s not just cereal or nothing!

So we have homemade chocolate peanut butter cups with crushed walnuts or almonds added.

Yogurt with fruit and homemade granola

Oatmeal chocolate chip cookie bars

Everything is made with less sugar, olive oil, honey, clean chocolate and flax seeds or added protein.

What are your go to breakfast on the go foods?

I had a dream….

From 16 years old

From my first visit to Israel

From the friends and relatives I met

From the settlements to the hilltops

From the Breslovers, to the shepards, to the beekeepers and remedy makers

To live in this land.

That was the big dream and we did it!

And in the big dream is many small dreams.

And this shabbos fulfilled one of this small dreams.

To be the host family. To be the relatives. To share out beautiful hilltop life with cousins here for the year.

Feeling full circle now.

You asked for it!

Here are some of my go to homemade snacks.

I use spelt flour, olive/avacado oil, butter, ground flax seeds, nuts, Himalayan salt, high cocoa content clean chocolate, honey and whole fat milk/yogurt to increase nutritional value and quality of whatever I make.

I look for regular recipes and tweak them if needed.

In addition to the foods in the post I often make:

Olive oil chocolate chip oatmeal cookies

Chocolate chip/walnut cookies

Popcorn

Fruit leather

Honeyed almonds and pecans

Sun butter chocolate cups ( great for peanut free school snack).

What are you making next?

What’s on your go to list that I’m missing here?

And remember… anything you make at home is better than the store. Even if you are not ready/able to invest in these ingredients.

At the end of an intake with a new client she shared that it felt like a therapy session for her!

And this isn’t new for me to hear.

But this time I felt the importance of this so strongly.

I wasn’t always the therapist parents would say this to….

Sharing more of my very personal experiences with this in my stories….

Providers would love to hear your experiences with this.

Parents share what your experiences with providers have been.

Let’s learn from each other.
