Every golfer wants the be like their favorite pro… I know I do.

As golfers we want:

To use the same clubs as our favorite golfer.

To mimic their swing.

And rep the same gear.

But why don’t golfers ever want to workout just like their favorite players?

Many of the best golfers in the world ( just like )have some sort of golf fitness program to not only give them an edge, but for their personal health.

If the best are doing it, shouldn’t you consider a fitness routine?

It’s not only a great way to improve your game, but can improve your health and longevity allowing you to play your best golf now and in the future.

Are you working on your golf fitness? Let me know in the comments!

Better Hip Rotation

These Band-Loaded Internal Rotation Hinges are no joke.

The eccentric loading into hip ER and Abduction helps improve mobility, while the concentric portion really helps you own, control, and strengthen adduction and internal rotation.

All the above are motions you need strength and control over when it comes to your hips and the golf swings.

Comment 🔥 if you’ve tried these.

DO YOU NEED TO BE FIT FOR GOLF

With John Daly playing well this weekend, posts showing what he eats and drinks on the golf course are popping up left and right.

But if someone on the can get away with poor nutrition, hydration, and exercise habits, the question people start to consider is do you even need to be fit for golf.

In my mind, if you’re asking this question, you don’t understand what being fit means.

With how the media and social media is, everyone’s idea of fitness is 6-pack abs and being ripped.

But I’m reality, fitness is goal specific, not an ideal aesthetic.

CrossFitters have different demands than basketball players.

Basketball Players have different demands than baseball pitchers.

Pitchers have different demands than golfers.

The list goes on.

In the case of John Daly, he may be unhealthy. But he has all the attributes needed to be successful at golf.

But we’re also seeing a rise in those who are doing golf performance on the tour and it is starting to make the game longer.

So what does it mean to be golf fit?

It means you have adequate mobility, strength, and stability without it causing pain or affecting your swing mechanics.

Luckily for all of us, golf doesn’t require us to be aerobically fit.

But we do need to move well to maintain a good kinematic sequence and to absorb the high levels of force that act on your body.

What are your thoughts on golf fitness?

There is nothing better than new golf clubs.

But new clubs ain’t going to change anyone’s game, or make up for poor mobility, strength, and power.

Not only can these things impact your swing, but they can leave you at a greater risk for injury.

The best part, you can significantly improve your body for free by simply adding a golf warm-up to your routine.

Orthopedic Cost vs Orthopedic Revenue.

Cost = what movements will cause degeneration and break down the more you perform it.

Revenue = what movements build longevity and help you fight off pain.

But the real question, is do these actually exist?

Getting new golf equipment is exciting and fun. But it’s not the magic bullet to make a significant impact on your game or your driving distance.

Sure, the tech in golf makes clubs more forgiving and can add a few yards - but it’s not the best way to add yards off the tee.

Building strength, power, and speed is the best way.

Not only can we make significant improvements to club head speed (I had a 10 mph jump last year alone), but proper training can reduce your injury risk, help you feel better, and reduce age-related performance decreases.

I’m not telling you to not splurge for that new driver. Who the hell wouldn’t want to pull the trigger on something like that. Just make sure you’re taking care of your body and building qualities that will improve how you function on and off the course.

Some may call this strength/stability training, but when you understand how to train mobility you realize that mobility training looks a hell of a lot like strength training.

Video 1: Kinetic Stretching for Shoulder Internal Rotation.
Pausing for a second at your end range is a hell of a challenge for your strength at end range, aka mobility.

Video 2 Shoulder External Rotation from a Hinge Position.

I love this variation for golfers as it mimicks the range of motion needed in your golf swing. The ability to hold the end range tells us just how much control you have over the position.

Video 3: Bottoms Up Standing to Kneeling.

Work stability at your end ranges of shoulder flexion.

The bottom line here is it doesn’t matter what you call it. But what you need to realize is that mobility training and strength go hand-in-hand. You can’t have one without the other.

When it comes to creating healthy shoulders, it is important to have good strength and rotational mobility.

Video 1 is of T’s, Y’s, and W’s - which help to strengthen the muscles around the shoulder including the rotator cuff.

The goal here is to move slow and controlled with good technique.

Video 2 is an example of shoulder capsular CARs which helps us explore full shoulder external and internal rotation while improving our overall control over the movements.

You must maintain muscular tension throughout the movement to get the most out of this one.

These exercises are in my current warm-up to prepare my shoulders for the workout to come.

They can also help your golf swing as full access and strength into shoulder external rotation will not only help you get into your backswing, but help you shallow out your golf club as well.

Give them a try and share this with/tag a friend who could use these!

Want to fix your side plank technique?

When setting up, place your back up against the wall.

Both shoulder blades, glutes, and heels should graze the wall at all times - don’t just lean against it.

This will help you find your alignment with every set!

If you’re dealing with hamstring tightness, stop and scroll 🤙.

The first 2 videos hit up the mobility perspective.

The fist video, the Hinge and Reach has been my go to to for improving hamstring flexibility and strength.

Video 2, band-assisted leg lowering is a great version to improve your straight leg pattern.

Videos 3-5 are strengthening exercises. Strengthening the area is the best way to improve its mobility. So if you’ve been passively stretching to no avail, start strengthening.

If you deal with hamstring tightness, comment 😢 in the comments.

Here are two Copenhagen Side Plank options that you can try.

Option one is the easier variation as the lever arm is shorter.

These should be sprinkled into your program periodically as they are a great way to strengthen the adductors, which are often undertrained.

I want to know if you’ve done these before. Drop a 🤙 if you have and a 👎 if you haven’t.
