This is about all kinds of relationships: friendships, romantic, professional, etc.

A 1+1=8 relationship is a win-win-win, meaning both people get more energy AND the relationship is so good that a surplus of energy is produced that can be invested back into the world.

👉🏼 The way to know you’re NOT in a 1+1=8 relationship is if the relationship depletes you over time.

Now be careful, this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the other person’s “fault.”

It’s likely (because all of us do this all the time) you are doing something unconsciously that’s depleting you, and blaming another person for this inhibits the opportunity for you to cultivate greater self-understanding.

So, do a thorough check of yourself first 💗

👉🏼 One of the ways to know you ARE in a 1+1=8 relationship is that both people experience an increase in energy over time and use conflict as necessary material to produce unconscious transformation, increase closeness, and produce even more energy

7 loosely related concepts and ideas to reflect on to check in on how internally safe you are.

Safety is all about adaptability.

Adaptability is all about relationship with change. This is why you’ll hear me say the safest place in the universe exists in the unknown.

It is all about making progress toward the capacity of your centeredness; to be in a state of love, awe, and wonder, no matter how far you are pulled from the center of gravity.

You are likely harshly self-critical because a part of you believes that’s the way you need to be.

This part thinks you’re (a) undeserving of kindness or (b) that kindness means you won’t change, or both.

But this part is mistaken.

🧠The brain science:

👉🏼 When you’re harshly self-critical, your brain experiences it as an immediate threat. In response, your nervous system locks down and reinforces your current behaviors, including the ones you criticize.

👉🏼 Your neural synapses, where information is exchanged, lock up, preventing you from processing new information. A threatened nervous system can’t change.

👉🏼 Kindness and warmth signal safety to your nervous system. When it perceives safety, it relaxes, and your neural synapses open up, allowing you to process and integrate new information.

🍊Remember: kindness and warmth alone aren’t enough. Pairing them with determination and bold action makes you unstoppable.

At every level of your evolution you will hit an upper limit problem. The better you get at recognizing and transforming these limits, the faster you will evolve.

Smoothly transcending upper limits asks two things of you:

1. You operate with a high degree of personal responsibility and self-curiosity

2. You recognize that the unknown is the safest place in the universe and you eagerly find and step into the unknown in every moment of your life

Bridging the gap between where you are and where you want to be requires you to do your unconscious mind’s least favorite thing:

Stepping into the unknown.

It could be that you are NOT accepting yourself as an unconscious strategy to avoid the unknown and therefore avoid investing your energy in change and evolution.

To take a greater level of personal responsibility:

👉🏼 What if you recognized that not-accepting yourself may be a strategy to avoid building something beautiful for the world?

👉🏼 What if you recognized that, as a change maker and contributor to evolution, acceptance of yourself and all things is one of your greatest tools?

👉🏼 If you released that idea that you should be different, would you become and what would you build?

I’ve been invested in personal evolution for more than 15 years. In the beginning, as I increased my levels of self-awareness, I also seemed to increase my levels of harsh-self criticism.

It was like the more I learned about myself the more I hated about myself. The problem with self-hate is that it nearly guarantees we can’t access the depths of our unconscious, and if we can’t do that we can’t transform.

One of the most valuable things I’ve learned is how to transform critical self-awareness to loving self-awareness. It is with love and curiosity that we are able to get into the shadows of our psyche and heal wounds.
