Heyy now!

🛑 SCROLLING if you are a parent of a high school student.

🛑 SCROLLING if you are in high school.

The common mistake most people make while preparing for the upcoming school year is struggling to prepare ahead📚

My client experienced a significant improvement in his grades last SEMESTER alone because we developed and executed our plan. 🎯

At Acquired Learning Solutions, our work is rooted in a growth-mindset framework. 🙌🏾

The first time I saw ‘Congrats you passed the Masters exam” I couldn’t believe it! 👀

Imagine….
✔️Passing the exam you’ve been studying for MONTHS!

✔️Getting accepted into the number one school of your choice.

✔️Getting that job you’ve always wanted!

😩I went from forcing myself to choose one area over another and scrambling and spreading myself too thin to properly balancing my responsibilities by maintaining consistency in my habits, and having time to reflect on what I've accomplished.

📣Just a friendly reminder‼️

💡For children and adults with ADHD, focusing is not a question of willpower. Brain chemistry is in control. The ADHD brain produces less neurotransmitters that affect concentration and mood. 'Trying harder' won't make a difference, but diet and exercise can.

💡"It is estimated that those with ADHD receive 20,000 more negative messages by age 10 than they do positive messages. They view themselves as fundamentally different and flawed," says ADHD expert Dr. Ned Hallowell.

💡"When a child with ADHD receives a drop or two of praise, it's like rain in the desert. He drinks it in, revels in it," says Dr. Ned Hallowell.

Have a great weekend y’all!!

🚨🚨LMSW Exam Prep! -----

“Unofficial Score: Congratulations! You passed the Masters ASWB Examination”

This is the result YOU want and this is the goal you are going to achieve!

📖Studying for the licensing exam is a LONG and DREADFUL and sometimes an isolating process. I’ve heard different outcomes/experiences from many social workers who passed and failed and continued to take the exam with little success. The feeling of being disappointed, frustrated and feeling like quitting is hard to overcome.

🗣I REPEAT - DON’T GIVE UP! - YOU WILL PERSEVERE!

👀 Did you know in 2020 - 25% of students failed the Master's exam?

At Acquired Learning Solutions, to build consistency, this curriculum will include 1:1 weekly meetings, assess how you learn best and acquire the skills needed. Offer evidence-based test-taking study techniques, individualized study guide and personalized coaching based on personal experience with the ASWB Masters. The curriculum will also include test anxiety and self-care techniques!

🙌🏾We will speak LMSW into existence! Whether you’re a first-time test taker or repeat test taker.

😂😭 How many of you have felt like this!?
•••

In all seriousness, sometimes a student or a client will come to the session and not want to participate. Of course, this is not the session you’ve intended, but it happens!

🤚🏾This is when you need to be adaptable and meet the client where they are. What exactly do I mean?

Students/clients should be met where they are, not where you think they should be. 🔑

Some students/clients come to the session:
🙅🏾‍♀️Upset about a conversation they had with a teacher or a friend during the school day.
🙋🏾‍♂️Excited to talk to you about something that happened during the day.
💆🏾‍♀️Just want to sit, talk and take a break from schoolwork.

Use this session to build rapport, role play, and build on social-emotional learning by:
🙌🏾Providing opportunities to engage in a discussion on how to make responsible decisions and choices.
🙌🏾Providing space to reflect on their actions
🙌🏾Identify different ways to manage emotions

Are you providing space for your students today?⬇️

Hi, Acquired Learners!

🎉🎊 August 24 marks the one-year Anniversary of Acquired Learning Solutions! (A little late post- but HEY life gets in the way)

As I scroll through my pictures down memory lane, I am reminded why I started Acquired Learning Solutions.

From obtaining my Master Social Work degree to being committed and dedicated to studying for my license exam for three months straight and successfully pass on the first try, I had to be aware and understand my strengths and weaknesses of my executive functioning skills to:
☝🏾Set goals
☝🏾Plan
☝🏾Pace
☝🏾Prioritize
☝🏾Self-monitor
☝🏾Follow through and execute

Previously, I worked at a private school as an instructor specifically to help students improve their executive functioning skills and that’s when I had my AHA moment! 💡

The message was clear. I want to be able to share the importance of learning about brain-based skills necessary for students to execute, or accomplish tasks.

Fast forward to today - It has been a pleasure to work with my learners. Thank you to the PARENTS who trusted the process. We have seen improvements in:
✔️Managing emotions
✔️Academic performance
✔️Improved grades on their report cards
✔️Improved communication with their parents, teachers, and peers.

With my older clients, I’ve seen my clients improve on:
✔️Self-confidence
✔️Improved managing a busy schedule
✔️One leaped to make a career change. (You know who you are!)

What I learned so far is that it’s not just about “self-management worksheets” or “social skills groups”, it's really about relationship building and providing an opportunity to learn more skills by hands-on learning and active learning to improve on:
🎯Self-regulation
🎯Self-motivation
🎯Self-talk

At Acquired Learning Solutions, we will be adding more services as we continue to grow! Stay tuned! This is my MOOD 4 EVA🙌🏾

☝🏾How many times do you catch yourself driving and think:

“Once I get home, I have to take the dog out, prep dinner, and do my 30-minute workout.”

OR

On Friday, when you're reaching the last hour of the workday and think:

"Okay, on Saturday I have to take the kids to swim class, prep for lunch and meet with the grandparents at 5."

💡The heart of executive function is visualizing yourself moving from point A and point B. That is a developmental skill.

🙌🏾 Executive functioning always begins as non-verbal communication/working memory:
•If ….. THEN….

Verbal working memory (self talk)
•I will….
•I am going to...
•Maybe I should….
•When I (Creating the INTENTION)

How many times do you catch yourself doing this throughout the day? ✅

🙌🏾Strength-based short activity!

🙇🏾‍♀️ Our students tend to focus on their flaws and dismiss their strengths.

🤞🏾Coaches, teachers, educators, what is our responsibility? It is to assist our students in identifying and appreciating their talents and exploring and applying them in their everyday lives.

When people align with their strengths they feel as if they come alive. Your strengths:
☝🏾 Make you feel like ‘the real you’.
☝🏾When they are in use, you feel excited and eager.
☝🏾You experience rapid learning about how to use them.
☝🏾You are always finding new uses for them.
☝🏾You create personal projects in order to use them

💡According to Honos-Webb (2008, p.32) we can ask the questions above to help our students understand their strengths!

👋🏾Parents- YOU can ask yourselves the same questions!

🔍Self-Monitoring -
This skill category relates to the capacity to measure and assess one's own performance on routine tasks.
🧘🏾‍♀️People who have this ability may look at a problem from many angles before acting and commenting on how things went both during and after the activity.
🙇🏾‍♀️Those who have trouble self-monitoring may lack self-awareness.
They often don’t know how to check their work, and they can’t tell if their strategies are working. (Dawson and Guare, 2016 p. 222)
🙌🏾I generally ask my students a series of questions to assist them in developing a strategy for learning from their mistakes and reviewing what went right or wrong.

⬇️ How do YOU increase your self-awareness?!
