Today was a rainy day with flood warnings and we were told to not leave our homes if possible. I took the day to go back into my focus on bone. I decided to focus on the thoracic vertebrae, sternum and ribs. Hours later I realized just how dramatic bone ages. It took a very long time to even remotely pe*****te my thoracic vertebrae. Since the quality of the spine is key to longevity I focused intensely on each vertebra. I found without focusing the breath fully when the ball was at each vertebra, I could not feel bone quality improve. I could not feel healthy space and movement occurring as I slowly worked up the center and each side.
Once I stood up I could feel I was taller and standing up straighter and I could hear more movement in my spine as I moved my head and neck but I still could not breathe and feel space between each vertebra.
This to me shows just how important the bone specific work is and the importance of starting it when the bone quality of the spine is younger and more penetrable and all the muscles supporting the spine are not gripped to the vertebrae.
Though everybody loves the various variations of working up the spine in Yamuna Body Rolling this does not help to maintain healthy bone quality and supporting muscles of the spine to maintain their flexibility. It does feel great and the spine as a whole unwinds and lengthens up but the necessary detail to bone is not in the basic work. You can still roll up the spine and love the feeling and the immediate affect.
You don’t have to do the detailed work all the time but every now and then if you are younger. This is to prevent any vertebrae from getting stuck to each other and going into compression. Us older folks need to spend time doing the detailed work until we feel the energy active and alive in each vertebra.
