Trauma-related guilt comes from feeling or thinking that you could have or should have done something different to stop or stop the traumatic event from happening. Typically, these feelings of self-blame are not based on a realistic assessment of the circumstances, but rather on the cruel things survivors tell themselves after being victimized. In therapy, we will work toward a better understanding and healthier processing of the events that may have led to the difficulties you are experiencing today.
