At Wild & Free OT, therapy just doesn't happen inside four walls- it happens under the sky, in the fresh air, and surrounded by nature! 🌿

We believe the outdoors is one of the best therapy tools. From splashing in creeks to climbing logs, the natural environment offers endless ways for kids to explore their senses, build strength, develop coordination, and grow confidence -all while having fun. 🌻

And we know it's not just about the child- it's about the whole family. That's why we partner with you, offering strategies, consultations, and practical ideas to bring the benefits of therapy into your home and community. 💚

Here, therapy feels like play...because it is!

We'd love to connect- book a free consultation call to explore how we can support your family: wildandfreeot@gmail.com

Summer OT sessions continue at the creek! We turned a daunting task (handwriting) into a fun boat race and sensory exploration. The boat race alone worked on balance and visual tracking skills!

In our occupational therapy sessions we follow the child's interest and curiosity in order to make connections and facilitate co-regulation. Minecraft was a theme in our session today with a makeshift boulder used as a crafting table and an opportunity to work on our fine motor and handwriting skills. All done in the outdoors!

New cold weather trick for anyone that doesn't have boots that fit their kid: Tie a plastic grocery bag over preferably wool socks to waterproof. They can go for a few hours without feeling too wet and cold.

It's very quiet at Erwin Park in the summers during high heat. We found some unexpected friends during one of our recent outdoor OT sessions. First, we came upon this barn owl in the middle of the day. It flew above our heads as we walked closer, trying to get to the other side of the path. We turned the corner of the hiking path and found our second friend: a harmless garter snake trying to eat its prey, quickly moving away from us. Most wildlife in these woods are more scared of us than we are of them.

When we finally got to our nature spot where we could sit down and work on some fine motor tasks or primitive reflex exercises, we digested all that we had seen. We wondered why the barn owl was out during the day? Or what the snake was going to eat for dinner. We congratulated ourselves for how calm we handled the unexpected, which is a real life skill!

What do outdoor OT sessions look like? Each session is different depending on the child's needs and interests. Today we planned out our very own mud kitchen using motivating interests (dinosaurs). We learned how to use both of our hands in a coordinated movement, developed ideas and plans with support, and provided lots of sensory play including wet/dry textures and heavy work.
