Nature moves
In divine will
Knowing all
Will turn fully
To its completion..
The masterful
Unify their will
To move as one
With the world..
Knowing
That what is willed
By the will of the one
Without doubt
Is done

Stabilizing and clearing the mind
1.34-38: Five concentrations for stabilizing the mind

(pracchardana vidharanabhyam va pranayama)

(vishayavati va pravritti utpanna manasah sthiti nibandhani)

(vishoka va jyotishmati)

(vita raga vishayam va chittam)

(svapna nidra jnana alambanam va)

Or by elongation of the gentle exhalation through the nostrils 👃🏻 thereby lengthening the life force...

Or by meditation on the subtle sense perception from which will arise a firmly established stability of the mind...

Or by concentration on the painless inner luminosity...

Or by imagining a mental field that is free from attachment to objects of the senses...

Or by holding the attention upon the awareness of dreaming and deep sleep 😴...

Stabilizing and clearing the mind
1.33: Four attitudes to cultivate towards other people

(maitri karuna mudita upekshanam sukha duhka punya apunya vishayanam bhavanatah chitta prasadanam)

By cultivating attitudes of friendliness, compassion, delight, and disregard towards the happy 😃, unhappy 😞, virtuous, and wicked respectively, the mental field attains undisturbed calmness.

Obstacles and solutions
1.32: Use one-pointedness for the obstacles

(tat pratisedha artham eka tattva abhyasah)

For the sake of their prevention is the practice of one-pointedness.

Obstacles and solutions
1.30-31: Obstacles on the journey

(vyadhi styana samshaya pramada alasya avirati bhranti-darshana alabdha-bhumikatva anavasthitatva chitta vikshepa te antarayah)

(duhkha daurmanasya angam-ejayatva shvasa prashvasah vikshepa sahabhuva)

Disease, dullness, doubt, carelessness, laziness, sensuality, false perceptions, failure to reach firm ground, and slipping down from the ground gained—these mental distractions are obstacles.

Pain, despair 😩, trembling of the body, disturbed inhalation and exhalation 😦 arise as accompaniments to the distractions.

A picture is worth a thousand words:
The circles appear to move, but are actually stationary. Focus on any of the small black circles and the motion stops! This illusion is a simple way to communicate the principle of using one-pointedness to still the mind.

Meditation is similar to this picture. Meditation in action is also similar.
Train the mind to be one-pointed and the inner obstacles come to rest!

Direct route through AUM
1.23-29: Contemplation on AUM

(ishvara pranidhana va)

(klesha karma vipaka ashayaih aparamristah purusha-vishesha ishvara)

(tatra niratishayam sarvajna bijam)

(purvesham api guruh kalena anavachchhedat)

(tasya vachakah pranavah)

(tat japah tat artha bhavanam)

(tatah pratyak chetana adhigamah api antaraya abhavash cha)

Or from dedicated devotion to the creative source from which we emerged.

That creative source is a distinct consciousness unaffected by afflictions, actions, fruits of actions or the storehouse of impressions left by desires.

There in is the unsurpassed manifestation of the seed of omniscience.

Unconditioned by time, it is even the teacher of the ancients.

The word expressive of this creative source is the mystic sound AUM.

It is to be repeated with reflection upon its meaning.

From this arises knowledge of the inner Self and also the disappearance of obstacles.

Efforts and commitment
1.21-22: Choosing the level of practice

(tivra samvega asannah)

(mridu madhya adhimatra tatah api visheshah)

With keen intent one is sitting very close with great speed.

Thereupon there is also a distinction between mild, medium or intense.
