But wait, where do you get your protein???🤔
I can’t tell you how many times I get this question. Yes, I eat plant based, which means no animal products....no meat, no dairy, and no eggs. And yes, I am easily able to meet my protein needs!💪🏻🥗
Did you know that only 10-15% of your diet needs to be protein? This myth, especially in the fitness world, that you need to eat a high protein diet is based on a study done in the 1800’s...a study that was quickly de-bunked. Crazy, right? 😳😬🤦🏼♀️
What we know now, from study after study is that the ideal range for protein is 10-15% of your total calories. That is easily done by eating plenty of plants: whole grains, legumes/beans, tofu/tempeh, vegetables, fruits, and nuts/seeds. By eating a variety of these foods, you can hit your protein goals.
There are a few exceptions, such as if you are over the age of 65, a legit athlete, or doing a lot of heavy weight training in order to build muscle, you will need to bump that number up a bit. This can be done by focusing more on protein rich foods such as tempeh, edamame, beans, and legumes.
But for the average person, protein isn’t something that you need to be spending your time focusing on🙌🏻🙌🏻
And did know that eating a high protein diet where the protein comes from animal products has actually been shown to decrease life span, increase inflammation, and promote disease? ❤️
The moral of the story? Stop stressing about protein. Instead eat a wide array of plants and know you are doing something good for your body with every bite you take!🍎🥑🥦
