While many women experience urinary leakage after pregnancy or child-birth, incontinence is also highly prevalent among female athletes.
In fact, a recent study on 754 athletes showed that 45% of female athletes reported urinary incontinence, and the majority of this leakage occurred when jumping or running (PMID 33041208).
Leaking urine can cause social embarrassment and interfere with quality of life. There are effective options such as pelvic floor physical therapy, devices, office-based procedures, and surgical treatment for incontinence. “I never usually write reviews but my experience with Dr. Kumar at Women’s Urology New York was so exceptional that I wanted to share with other women in similar situations. I have lived and suffered with issues for years following the births of my 3 children. I, like so many others, just suffered in silence and shame until a friend recommended, I see Dr. Kumar. I made an appointment and was so nervous, but Dr. Kumar and her staff put me completely at ease. Her office is modern, stylish, spotless, and her staff were so friendly, professional and discrete that I felt comfortable straight away.” Read the full review and more like it here: https://www.google.com/search?q=Womens+Urology+of+New+York&oq=Womens+Urology+of+New+York&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i10l2j46i10i175i199l3j69i60l2.3274j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#lrd=0x89c2452456634677:0xb47ec103943fb2aa,1,,,

Hematuria is the presence of blood in the urine. When it is microscopic, it means you don’t see blood in your urine, but when a lab sample is examined under a microscope, some red blood cells are detected. If your primary care doctor or gynecologist tells you there is blood on your urine sample, you should see a urologist. At Women’s Urology New York, June is Menopause month. Menopause symptoms go under-recognized in the large majority of women, and our goal is to change that. Here’s why a female urologist cares about menopause.
• 50% of women develop a syndrome called genitourinary syndrome of menopause, where the lack of estrogen leads to thinning of the vaginal walls and loss of collagen around the urethra.
• This causes:
1. Vaginal dryness and irritation
2. Pain with in*******se
3. Urinary frequency and urgency
4. Stress urinary incontinence
5. Urinary tract infections
As you can imagine, urinary and s*xual health problems that arise from menopause can cause significant quality of life issues, and these problems are often treatable!
Many women assume they are supposed to see their gynecologist for these problems. Gynecologists are our wonderful allies in women’s health, but not all of them specialize in menopause, and if urinary problems are involved, a urologist or urogynecologist is your best bet. For menopause health, also look for a practitioner who is certified by the North American Menopause Society.
Also feel free to visit my website to learn more about genitourinary syndrome of menopause. https://www.womensurologynewyork.com/conditions-treatments/genitourinary-syndrome-of-menopause/

How can physical therapy help my overactive bladder?⠀
⠀
A lot of women wonder how pelvic floor physical therapy helps with urinary frequency and urgency symptoms. ⠀
⠀
Since the bladder and pelvic floor muscles are neurologically connected, when the pelvic floor muscles contract, they lift the bladder slightly and close the bladder outlet. This sends a signal to your brain that you are deferring the urge to urinate, and the brain signals back to the bladder to accommodate the storage of urine. This helps the urge to pass. ⠀
⠀
Do you ever notice that if you get distracted after you think you have to urinate, the urge passes and you can go another hour or two before you make a trip to the bathroom? This is your bladder going back into storage mode. ⠀
⠀
If you are bothered by urinating too often, seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist to learn these techniques can really help increase the time in between urinating.⠀
⠀
✏ A normal interval would be every 3-4 hours.⠀
⠀
✏ Bladder retraining involves incrementally increasing the time interval you use the bathroom so that you can stop worrying about when and where you will be able to go. ⠀
⠀
✏ Bladder retraining involves trying to urinate at scheduled times, instead of every time you have the urge to go. ⠀
⠀
As you practice techniques to encourage your bladder to store urine more comfortably, you can increase the amount of time in between voids. ⠀
⠀
