STOP COMMENTING ON OTHER PEOPLE’S BODIES! The comments on some of these athletes’ instagram posts is so wrong. Our bodies are our own. No two bodies are the same. You might be the same height and weight but not look alike. Not everyone’s body is going to attract you. Your body is not going to be attractive to everyone else either. Accept this. Our bodies are not required to pique anyone’s interest and rile up others’ hormones. Someone’s looks don’t float your boat? Move on! Scroll on! Why feel the need to put that in writing for the world to see?

What we do with our bodies is our own business, too. Some people choose to push their bodies to their limits and achieve goals like Olympic Gold. Some people choose to couch surf. Some people choose everything in between. You do you! It doesn’t matter what path you choose but don’t shame, denigrate or insult others. Stay in your lane. Be kind! Lift each other up instead of tearing each other down. We can be better!

Stop repeatedly starting over. Instead start pushing through. Too often, we start working toward our goals and are super motivated. We might see immediate or quick results and that makes us happy. But then we plateau, our minds, our bodies, or both get used to the new normal and the progress slows or stalls. And we give up because it’s tough to keep going when it seems fruitless. What we don’t realize is that this is the time when it is most vital to keep going, to keep pushing ourselves with positive self-talk. This is the time when we need to lean into the harder thing and reach out for support. And if you don’t know to whom you can reach out, then reach out to me. When we give up at this point, we continue that cycle of starting over, making strides, plateauing, giving up. It’s like lather, rinse, repeat on a continuous loop and it gets you nowhere. On the other hand, when you learn to talk yourself through the tough periods, when you learn to motivate yourself not by results but by the end goal, true change begins, habits begin. Learn that there is strength in seeking help. So stop starting over. Stop giving up on yourself. Keep pushing through no matter how small the steps you take.

When you get this sweet surprise in the mail from a former client, it takes your breath away and makes your day. This is why I do what I do. This is why I have made myself vulnerable and shared my story. This is why I want others to realize that it is never too late to seek help. This client went through a lot, had doubts, felt defeated but did not stop fighting and here is writing me this incredible message that I am posting as a beacon of hope for others who are struggling.

We all have the potential to make progress. We do it all give ourselves the opportunity to turn that potential into action. Why not?

Often we are stymied by fear. What will happen to me if I change? Who will I be? Will people still think of me in the same way? What if it is too hard? What if I try and I fail?

On the other hand, what if we look at the positive possibilities? What if our life improves from change? What if we are happier, more fulfilled or healthier?

When the desire for change is a greater force than the fear of it, that’s when the magic happens. Give yourself that gift. Choose yourself! Don’t wait. The time is now.

There is no such thing as a “summer body”!
To piggyback on a recent post by , I repeat, there is no such thing as a “summer body”.

How many times have you read an article, seen an ad or heard a fitness instructor say something like “let’s get those bodies ready for bathing suit season”? It’s so toxic to put that out there, that somehow the body you have in, say, March or April, isn’t worthy of being in a bathing suit. That somehow the burden is on you to CHANGE that body to be different and, by default, “BETTER” come summertime. And for whom is this change? Is it for you or for society’s general fat phobia and whacko standards of beauty?

What is really bothersome is the lack of attention to HEALTH with these messages and instead the primary focus on some generalized aesthetics decided by mainstream media and diet culture. What are some of these people going to do to themselves in order to achieve that “summer body”? How are they going to betray themselves, their souls and, likely, their health in order to do so?

Why can’t we accept who we are? Why can’t we accept where our bodies naturally want to be? We all have a natural set point yet so often we refuse to be satisfied with this and buy into these destructive messages that lead us to low self-worth.

It doesn’t have to be like this. Instead, come up with a mantra that challenges these notions. Some ideas:
🗣️Mine is a body for ALL seasons!
🗣️I love my body all year round!
🗣️My body is not on a seasonal rotation.

Share your comebacks with me! They might just help someone else.

FIND YOUR GLIMMERS!
What are GLIMMERS? They are tiny, micro-moments of joy. Think of enjoying a sunset, playing with your pet, laughing at a joke, enjoying a cup of coffee on a park bench, dipping your toes in a pool or ocean, flipping the pillow to the cold side…Glimmers are all around us and can show up anytime, anywhere. My glimmers might differ from yours because they are what resonates with YOU.

We spend so much time thinking about and reacting to our “triggers” that it can be easy to lose sight of the good things, the small victories, the forgotten moments of contentment. When we start to pay attention to those then it make us even more resilient when the hard stuff comes along—and it will. Build yourself up so that nothing can take you down.

Savor the moments of joy so that you can stand strong against the pain.

What are your glimmers? Share with us in the comments!

This is why I do what I do. I got this in the mail today and it truly touched my soul. Recovering from an eating disorder was the hardest challenge of my life. I am grateful I survived so that I can use my experience to help others find their own light and meaning. As this is it is important to highlight not only the significant number of those suffering from a variety of mental illnesses but also that there is HOPE.

I’m 2016, I was feeling burned out. My brain was numb. I’d spent years volunteering at church, my kids’ schools, various nonprofit organizations and I was still both tired and unfulfilled in some way. Someone suggested I start saying “no” when asked. I was still involved yet more selective but then that led to feelings of guilt (why???). And then something changed. I turned those NOs around.
-💡In 2017, I got an email about a new program developed by , my former ED therapist, about training ED coaches. It felt like a cartoon light bulb lit up above my head. Having gone through an eating disorder myself, I knew how alone I felt at times and how maybe I would’ve recovered sooner had there been a coach in those darkest moments. So I said YES, sent an email and the rest is history. I’ve now worked with dozens of those suffering and it brings me true joy when they leave my care.

But that was only part of it. Fitness has been a part of my life since childhood. It became too much a part in college with my ED but I was able to rein it in and learn to workout in a healthy way. It took a backseat though with 2 young kids (although running after them was exercise in and of itself, right?!). When my youngest went to nursery school, it was my goal to find fitness again, something that was compatible with my life as a mom. In 2012, I found both and a boutique gym with classes and eventually a trainer I loved. I felt good about myself mentally, physically and loved the new community of friends I made. My kids saw me going to workout and I always said I was doing it to be healthy and to live a long life. The truth!
- 💪🏼 In 2018, after years of a pretty steady workout routine, suggested I become a trainer myself (she already had the books!). It sparked something in me that I didn’t even realize was there. I said YES. Now it’s 2023 and 3 certifications later, I have private clients and teach group classes. It doesn’t even feel like work to me because I love it so much.

I don’t know what my next YES will be. I do now that there will be more.

What is your YES story? What will you say YES to?
