I just spent Labor Day weekend living my best life - Afrojack (throwback to 2012 lol!), bottle service, cocktails, and indulgent meals with the people I love. And you know what? I didn’t wake up on Tuesday feeling guilty, bloated, and like I’d ruined all my progress.

You know the drill: Monday through Thursday, you’re “good,” sticking to your diet, counting your 1200 calories, avoiding the foods you love (because that’s what you think you HAVE to do to lose weight)🙅🏼‍♀️

😵‍💫But when the weekend rolls around, it’s like all bets are off. You find yourself diving into 3 slices of pizza, reaching for the entire bag chips, saying “yes” to extra dessert, and then the guilt sets in. Sound familiar?

But here’s the thing: It’s not because you lack willpower. It’s not because you don’t have self-control. The real reason you’re overeating on the weekends is the restrictions you place on yourself all week! 👀

When you’re in that restrictive mindset—cutting out your favorite foods, constantly saying “no” to the things you enjoy—you’re setting yourself up for a cycle of deprivation and bingeing. It’s human nature: the more you tell yourself you can’t have something, the more you want it. And eventually, the floodgates open.

👉Ditch the “All or Nothing” Mentality: Allow yourself to enjoy the foods you love in moderation, every day. When you know you can have a cookie on a Tuesday, you’re less likely to feel the need to eat the whole damn box on Saturday.

👉Be More Self-Aware: Are you over eating on the weekend because you’re truly hungry, or are you eating because it’s the weekend and you’ve “earned” it? I used to struggle with this… I’d eat everything in sight because I would tell myself “I can’t have that once Monday comes back around”. Can you relate?

👉Build in Flexibility With Your Diet: Create a plan that allows for flexibility & fun! Life isn’t meant to be lived in a box of “yes” and “no” foods. By including some of your favorite foods throughout the week, you reduce the urge to overindulge later.

I know you’re trapped in this pattern 🔄 being super strict Monday through Thursday, then going all out on the weekends—bottomless brunches, pizza nights, a few too many cocktails—only to spend the next week trying to “undo” the damage with extra workouts and severe calorie cuts.

You might be thinking, “I’ll just work it off during the week!” But here’s the hard truth: it doesn’t work like that 😱

Take my client, Katie, for example. When we first started working together, she was caught in this exact cycle. Every Monday, she’d step on the scale, frustrated by the lack of progress. She was putting in hours at the gym, skipping meals during the week, and still wasn’t seeing the results she wanted. Why? Because you can’t outwork a bad diet.

Here’s what was happening:

I know you’ve tried various diets - keto, fasting, Weight Watchers, Optavia...with the best of intentions. You start off full of hope, motivation, and determination, convinced that this is the one that will finally work for you 🤞🏼

And it does, for a little while… You lose weight, feel amazing, and think you’re on top of the world…But then life gets in the way 🤯 - social events, holidays, vacations, and work commitments.

You struggle to stay on track, and before you know it, you’re throwing in the towel completely 🤦‍♀️ that diet that seemed so promising just weeks prior is left to collect dust for another day… another time…

The problem isn’t you; it’s the diets themselves 🚫

Okay maybe it’s a little bit of you 😉🚩 mostly because you KEEP going back to the diets that don’t work! (Red flag). You think restrictive diets (like keto & Weight Watchers) are the answer to weight loss, but they can actually lead to your disordered eating & weight regain 🤯

These diets often come with a set of rigid rules that suck the fun out of life 🤪:

Don’t eat after 6 pm 🕰️ (because your body somehow magically changes at that hour?)

Cut out all carbs 🍞 (as if whole grains, fruits, and veggies are the enemy?)

Only eat ‘clean’ foods 🥗 (whatever that even means?)

Don’t eat fruit because it’s too high in sugar 🍉 (um, isn’t fruit supposed to be good for you?)

You can’t eat out 🍴 (because restaurants are bad for you?)

You HAVE to follow your meal plan 📝 (no flexibility allowed?)

These rules are not only unrealistic, but also damaging. They lead to disordered eating patterns, guilt, and shame…

And the worst part? You always gain the weight back because the diet was unsustainable in the first place 🤦‍♀️.

Before starting any new diet, ask yourself: can I eat this way forever? If the answer is no, it’s time to rethink your approach.
