There’s a dangerous old/new trend to misquote texts in order to accuse Jews and Torah of hateful language (as an excuse to hate us).

And I won’t pretend that there are zero Jews who look down on others; we are humans, and we are imperfect, just like everyone else, and we all need to work on being respectful of others.

But there are some people, Jews and gentiles alike, who have distorted the word goy or the plural goyim into something colloquially pejorative in some contexts, but that is a gross corruption and misrepresentation of what the word means in Torah literature.

It just means nation- including the Jewish nation. In fact, in the verse above, it’s used as a blessing. In other places, we are described as a goy kadosh, a holy nation, and an ohr lagoyim- a light unto all nations.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of blaming each other or arguing over the best way to achieve our goals.

But we ultimately share the same goals:

hostages home, terror neutralized, Israel safe, moral people the world over safe, free, protected, thriving.

We may disagree about the best ways to achieve this.

But it’s important to remember who the enemy is and is not, and not to project the anger that should be directed towards the bad people onto other good people, who just have different opinions about the same core values.

So, I may have added the caps but history totally repeats itself…

Esther and Mordechai, wise, humbly, peacefully advocate for survival.

But turning the other cheek is not a Jewish value.

Peace is a priority- but not at the cost of our survival.

We fought back then, just as we’re fighting back now. With hopes and prayers that we won’t need to anymore.

“For the Jews there was light, joy, celebration, and appreciation, and so will there be for us.” 🙏🏻

Once again, we find ourselves in a moment in history when for so many, evil masquerades as virtuous and the good are vilified and attacked. I try to take comfort in the knowledge that we’ve been through this before. G-d knows the truth, as do many humans of moral clarity who stand with us. We follow our Esthers and Mordechais, study Torah, pray, try to help others, and trust in G-d’s plan. Just as the evil Haman was taken down overnight, and the Jews saved, so can fall those who wish to destroy us in our times. G-d promised then and now to not forsake us. And we have the pastries to prove it 💙🙏🏻

They build a straw man reason to hate us and aim to destroy us.
It gets bad for us.

We are, eventually saved.
