The “8–10 Month Old Sleep Regression” just doesn’t have the same ring to it, does it? 😉

What’s commonly called the 9-month sleep regression isn’t actually about the number on the calendar. It’s the result of big developmental changes that can show up anytime between 7–10 months.

Here’s what’s really going on during this phase ⬇️

▫️ Major physical milestones like crawling and pulling to stand. Practicing these new skills in the crib can delay falling asleep and lead to more night wakings.

▫️ Object permanence: your baby is suddenly very aware of when you’re there and when you leave. I prefer the term “separation awareness” over “separation anxiety”, but regardless of what you call it, it can lead to bedtime resistance when you exit the room.

▫️ Teething, which can cause discomfort and make both falling asleep and staying asleep harder.

▫️ Nap transitions on the horizon as wake windows continue to lengthen and your little one gets staple on 2 naps.

Instead of focusing on when a regression might happen, it’s far more helpful to understand why it’s happening, and how to support your baby through it.

If you think this milestone regression is approaching, we’ve got a blog with your next steps! Comment BLOG below and we’ll sent it you!

If you are focused on feeding your baby at 7am / 10am / 1pm / 4pm / 7pm and feel like you’re constantly questioning what’s not working then this post is for you!

Don’t get me wrong, no one loves a schedule more than me — but it’s just not reality until your newborn is a bit older (think 4,5,6 months old).

Newborns aren’t wired for clock-based routines yet. Their bodies run on hunger, sleep needs, and growth... not the time on the clock.

Newborns also can’t tell time and are looking for a cues and a rhythm to their day with predictability (well, a little at least!)

Following a gentle rhythm instead of forcing a schedule always leads to less stress and better sleep for everyone.

Try it and let me know how it goes!

Save this post for those early weeks, or send it to a mama who’s instagram feed has her convinced she must be something wrong!

9 months old is such a fun age! Your baby is likely getting mobile, maybe even pulling up to stand, and their curiosity is peaking. All of that new learning means that sleep can be... a little interesting.

Comment “SCHEDULE” ⬇️ and we’ll send you the full link to our starter 2-nap schedule, perfect for 8-9 moth olds!

In the meantime, here are some of my top tips for 9-month-olds:

🔹 Aim for 2 naps for a combined total around 3 hours of daytime sleep
🔹 Most babies do well with two 90-minute naps, but you know your baby best!
🔹 Forget strict wake windows for now start anchoring naps to help create predictable nighttime sleep
🔹 Make sure solid routines are in place and your baby can go into the crib 100% awake and fall asleep on their own
🔹 Role play “lay down” to help your little one master the stand-to-lay-down skill

And finally… enjoy them! This stage will be over before you know it. Reach out for a schedule if you need it, and give them an extra squeeze for me , because this age may be my favorite💛

Why does the difference between incentives and bribery matter to toddler sleep?

Sleep is one of the biggest areas where consistency, boundaries, and trust really pay off. How you respond to your toddler at bedtime teaches them what to expect!

Bribes teach your child that if they push long enough, you’ll eventually negotiate. That’s how bedtime turns into a power struggle night after night.

Incentives show them that routines matter, effort is noticed, and good habits are worth sticking to.

This is especially important during big transitions, like the move from crib to bed!

I dive into this in Module 11 (of 13!) of our Navigating the Crib to Bed Transition course, and this section includes a complete incentive program for your convenience:

▫️ Weekly Parent Bedtime Calendar
▫️ Super Sleeper Sticker Reward Chart
▫️ Super Sleeper Prize List
▫️ Visual Bedtime Routine Chart
▫️ Bedtime Passes
▫️ Clear Bedtime Rules
▫️ Parent Guide to help you implement incentives that actually work

No negotiating at 3am. No moving the goalposts. Just calmer bedtimes and a child who knows what to expect.

Nap transitions don’t mean your child’s sleep is “falling apart.” They’re a normal (and temporary) part of development.

Every child’s timing will be slightly different, but knowing when nap transitions typically happen can make it easier to prepare and support your child through them.

If naps suddenly feel harder, these 3 shifts can make all the difference:

1️⃣ Use a flexible bedtime
Think of bedtime as a window, not a fixed time. Adjusting based on how naps went helps prevent overtired (or undertired) bedtime battles.

2️⃣ Anchor naps after 6 months
Instead of chasing wake windows all day, anchoring naps around consistent times creates rhythm and makes transitions smoother—especially with siblings or daycare schedules.

3️⃣ Follow your baby’s lead
Taking forever to fall asleep? Happily staying awake longer? Playing in the crib instead of sleeping? Those are clues. As wake windows stretch, your baby will show you when it’s time to adjust.

Nap transitions can feel messy, but with the right approach, they don’t have to be stressful.

Save this post or send it to a friend as a reminder of when nap transitions might happen, and comment BLOG for a detailed guide on how to handle them when they do.

“Can’t I just Google it? Couldn’t ChatGPT write me a sleep plan?”

Technically... yes!

But knowing WHAT to do isn’t the same as knowing HOW to do it…

That’s why I love this review so much: it highlights the human touch behind our support. Every coach on our team is a parent. We’ve lived the 3 a.m. wakeups, the skipped naps, and the “what now?” moments. And we pair that lived experience with years of professional training to guide you through the messy middle.

When ChatGPT spends a day chasing a toddler after waking every 3 hours with a newborn… then maybe it can write your sleep plan 😉

Until then, you’ll find relatable, compassionate, expert support at
