Isn’t it annoying to watch other people get things done, and you can’t even get started?🙄
Something is holding you back.
Confusion or overwhelm?😕
Too much to do. Don’t know where to start?😳
But if we dig deeper it sounds like,
“I’m afraid of...”😵‍💫
And THIS ☝️ is the real reason we procrastinate.😩

I see this all the time with my clients.
There is a task that’s important to do.
BUT a fear related to the task is why they freeze, not the task itself,

-Like update a resume 
-Go through their mail
-Study for a test
-Make that phone call

Staying in confusion or overwhelm doesn’t help because keeping our fears in the dark only makes them scarier.😶‍🌫️

So how do you begin?
1️⃣Start calling your fears out.“What about this task am I really worried about?”
-Maybe updating your resume is scary because you don’t think you’ve accomplished much.
-Maybe going through your mail is scary because you don’t like seeing bills.
-Maybe studying for that test is scary because there’s information you don’t understand.
-Maybe making that phone call is scary because you don’t know how the conversation will end.

2️⃣Once you identify the fear, determine if it’s true
3️⃣If it is true, what can you do about it?There’s always something you can do about a fear that is real.You may not have a complete solution but even a partial one will help.r

Procrastination is simply fear that is trapped, so start letting it out.

BTW, this takes practice.

You have to repeatedly deprogram the procrastination bug.

"I want to be more consistent." 👈 I hear this all the time when meeting a new client. And what they are really saying is, "I want to be able to count on myself. I want to be able to know that I will do what I say I'm going to do. In other words, I want to trust myself." We all struggle with this but it's hard to overcome because we're always comparing our insides to people's outsides. Like when we see others practicing consistent behavior, we don't see what is going on in their head to make that happen. It took me so long to learn this. But when I did I realized I had to train my brain to talk differently to myself. This inner dialogue matters. Words matter. 🦋 Going to the gym doesn't just happen for me. There is a whole narrative in my brain that I have to script in order to get going. And why? Because I want to trust that I will do what I said I would do. Don't get me wrong. I can't come every day bc well, life,... BUT, I know I'm consistent about not giving up--and that feels so good. That inner dialogue fuels me.
🦋 Pay attention to what you say to yourself. Notice which words drain you and which words fuel you. You'll know it by how you feel.🦋 Trust me, how you think matters.👈🤔😊

Does it ever feel like your brain is on strike? Like, no matter the task or when it's due, you just can't seem to get started on it. It's so annoying! Especially because you know the consequences! 🤯
Immediately perfectionists will use this opportunity to bash themselves, as if that helps.
But then what? You feel worse.
Bashing yourself doesn't solve it.
☹️
So,
I asked myself, how could I help my clients in this moment of crisis?
And when I thought about it, I used a technique that is often overlooked:
I inverted the problem.
I looked at it from a different perspective.
And in doing so, I came up with a solution that I'm pretty excited about. I don't think I would have gotten to it had I looked at this problem from just one point of view. With this solution I can offer my clients more than just coaching AND help them be more productive on their time.🤗⬇️
The inversion method of solving a problem means looking at it from all sides but especially from the side of, what would make this problem worse? Then you can at least see the answer for what NOT to do, and this opens up new possibilities. This is also known as the anti-goal.🤯🤓

Sooo next time, when your brain is "on strike", ask yourself, does it need more bashing or less? What really is keeping you stuck? What is the anti-goal? Then do the opposite.❤️😊

Perfectionism is the mentality that things have to be perfect. It's a self-sabatoging illusion. Now pair Perfectionism WITH Executive Function (EF) issues like staying focused, getting organized, following-through, making decisions and planning ahead, and well, LIFE can be pretty damn overwhelming! 🤪
I should know. I'm not just a coach, I'm also a client! 🤯
I can't say it's easy to overcome, but it is easier when you are being supported.👈🤔
I've been through a lot of coach training to help others but also to help myself however it's hard to work on yourself by yourself. So I also have a coach and THAT has made a huge difference! I'm learning not to hold back and not let "I don't have any time" get in the way because thinking about not having time is taking up a lot of time! Crazy but I know you can relate. So if you can relate to perfectionism or to struggling to be organized, manage your time, follow through, make decisions and generally feel like an adult, well, I hear you AND I'm here for you! 🙌❤️

A fear of rejection will kill your dreams faster than a bullet. We all have this fear, but perfectionists especially will go out of their way to avoid feeling rejected, even if it means never going after their dreams..
The truth is rejection happens, so learning how to work with it as you go after your purpose in life is the best way to get through it.

We created a plan together and worked WITH his fear, not against it, to recognize it as a tool to get better, not as a reason to give up.

🌺Today is a beautiful reminder that we always get to start over and rise above the past.
🌺We get to do better and be better, for ourselves and for each other.
🌺We don't just get to define ourselves but we get to REdefine ourselves because you are not just who you are, you are also who you want to be.
🌺 Today you get to start to be who you want to be, even if you've never been that person before.
🌺 Today you get a clean slate.
🌺 Today is a New Beginning.

Freeze!!!🥶 That's what always happens just as I'm about to post something about coaching. I don't want to mess it up. I don't want to risk rejection, be judged or criticized. My brain seems to think I'm going to be persecuted. So fear of persecution stops me even though my intentions are good. Fear doesn't care. Fear would rather I hide than help or move forward. You know this freeze response too. You hear it by its more common name, procrastination. And it's associated with putting things off or waiting for "the last minute". The term procrastination is often thought to be a choice as a lazy way of doing things. And this misconception then creates guilt and shame. And that guilt and shame makes us hide even more and do even less. All because now we think we're lazy. When all we had were good intentions.😔 What good intentions are you hiding today because of procrastination?

The reason I coach on procrastination, overwhelm and indecision, among other things, is because I am so damn good at doing those things myself! For example, this pic! Here I am, procrastinating by taking a selfie of myself procrastinating! Can this BE more meta??!!🤯 And you know I spent time going through every filter, cropping, lighting etc and probably killing 20 minutes just trying to decide if I'm going to post! 🤨
The truth is I was avoiding something I didn't want to do because it was hard. So my brain preferred that I wallow in an unproductive pity party instead of feeling the discomfort of pushing itself to dig deeper and do the work I signed up to do.🙁 What to do when this happens to you? First, be aware that you're procrastinating. This can be tricky because we can be very forgiving of what we're doing. Awareness in real time means calling yourself out on the spot while it's happening. Procrastinating can be so habitual you might not even notice you're doing it until after the day is done. So start with being on to yourself and say it out loud so you hear yourself admit it. Seems minor, I know, but trust me, it makes a difference. If you're not onto your own brain, then who is?🤔 And that's what I did, I called myself out: "Elisa, you're procrastinating. What are you going to do about it?" 🧐 Ugh! I rolled my eyes up of course but then rolled up my sleeves, splashed cold water on my face and got to work! Now my Friday night feels soooo much better! What about yours?
