It was a successful operation, and we're glad to help protect these incredible apex predators. Share your support for the field team below!

The desert is an unforgiving place, and human debris like rusted metal only makes it harder for wildlife to thrive. We intervened when we spotted this gemsbok limping heavily in the sand. Getting the shrapnel out cleanly and applying a supportive wrap is crucial for preventing infection and long-term lameness. It was a successful field operation from start to finish. Honey badgers have a reputation for being completely fearless, and their incredibly thick, tough skin is a big reason why. We had to act fast to remove a thick, rusted spike from this one's shoulder before it could cause a major infection. It takes a solid grip and a lot of care to extract something like this without causing further damage. We got the wound sealed up with foam to keep the desert sand out, and got out of his way! Let us know what you think of this tough guy in the comments.

Field medicine in these remote areas means working fast. This guanaco had a rusted staple wedged tight in its leg, which would have inevitably led to a crippling infection. Once we had the leg secured, the extraction went smoothly, and we sealed it up right away. It's tough work in a cold environment, but incredibly rewarding to see them run off safely.
